Now thatLive A LiveHD-2D was announced by Square Enix on Nintendo Switch, many fans are wondering what will happen to the JRPG’s iconic soundtrack in this remaster, and if we’re getting music rearrangements by Yoko Shimomura.
Yoko Shimomura is mainly known nowadays as the main composer of theKingdom Heartsseries, and as the composer of several iconic Capcom andStreet Fighterthemes. However her first OST at Square was the one forLive A Liveon Super Famicom in 1994. The game’s soundtrack and its boss battle themeMegalomaniais one of the big reasons whyLive A Livebecame a beloved classic over the decades.
Yoko Shimomura is supervising the rearranged OST ofLive A Liveon Switch
Soon after the Nintendo Direct showcase of August 21, 2025, Yoko Shimomura announced on Twitter she is supervising all of the rearrangements included in theLive A Liveremaster, seeing she’s the game’s original composer. Furthermore, Yoko Shimomura confirmed she will rearrange several tracks in the remaster herself.
Yoko Shimomura:“Live a Live got a remake!! Live A Live, the first game I worked on at Square, is getting a remake, this is unbelievable. I also rearranged some of the music, and I supervised all of the new rearrangements in the remake. We’ll reveal more details soon. Look forward to it!”
Back on theLive A Live26th anniversary stream in October 2020, Yoko Shimomura explained she felt a lot of pressure working onLive A Live, seeing it was her first job at Square, right after leaving Capcom. Be sure to check out oursummary of the anniversary event for more details.
It’s extremely likely Square Enix will hold at least oneLive A Livelive stream before the game’s release. We might get some details regarding who are the composers handling the rearrangements then. And we will definitely get a full list of the composers once the game is out, as we’ll be able to check the credits in-game.
