The game I’m referring to was developed by the now-defunct Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts, and it is none other than Dead Space 2. What makes this even better is that you can play this gem for free if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member.
Dead Space 2 is the direct sequel to the firstDead Space, which saw a remake by EA’s Motive Studio in 2023. Given that it doesn’t seem like we’ll get a Dead Space 2 remake anytime soon, it’s nice to hear that Dead Space 2 is still getting its flowers over a decade after its release.
People on the Xboxsubreddithave talked about the game and how it has held up “incredibly well” even after all these years. Multiple people have chimed in on how they hoped EA will also remake Dead Space 2 and even its third chapter, which I honestly am hoping for too.
Dead Space 2 was released in 2011 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and was well reviewed. Since its release, it has collectedan impressive 90 average score on Metacritic. While the Dead Space remake also reviewed well, getting an 89 average onOpen CriticandMetacritic, EA has not confirmed a remake for the sequel, which most likely means the game underperformed commercially. I’d love to be wrong about this, though that seems unlikely as more months pass without any reference to it.

What makes Dead Space 2’s critical success even more impressive back in 2011 was its intense competition.Don’t believe me? Batman: Arkham City, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Portal 2, Mass Effect 2, The Legend of Zelda: Syward Sword, Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, and more were all released in the same year! At least four of those games are Game of the Year material. Imagine a game this year getting released with that much quality competition. It wouldn’t stand a chance, but Dead Space 2 did, and it sold well enough for EA to push out a third chapter.
