A Marvel fan fromRedditposed a question on whyHugh Jackman’s Wolverine wore a yellow suit in the comics despite his gloomy personality and subsequently gave a plausible explanation as to the very reason. The gist of the theory goes:
“Wolverine wears a dumb bright yellow costume (that completely does not suit his personality) so that Sentinels will attack him and not teenage X-Men who really shouldn’t even be around.”
One of the points that the Redditor took note of is that when Wolverine works with the X-Men, he suits up in a stunning yellow costume. On days when he works alone, he puts on his regular clothes.

Several members of the squad were teenagers, some were even minors. As Wolverine is absolutely the toughest and most certainly impervious to harm, he became extremely protective of the young mutants. The Redditor concluded:
“My theory is that Wolverine wears a canary yellow suit to draw fire. To draw fire away from the X-Men’s ‘child soldiers’ who outside of the comic’s dire circumstances probably shouldn’t be fighting giant robots and future mercenaries anyway and towards a guy who basically cannot be seriously harmed.”
Indeed, this was an argument that was commended by several other fans. The theory definitely hits the target and could possibly be the real reason behind Wolverine’s sunshiny outfit. Previous directors ofX-Menfilms never really explained their choice not to follow the original costume, but thankfully, this time, the yellow suit will make its cinematic debut.

“When we first told Kevin Feige that Hugh Jackman wanted to join the movie – my recollection is – damn near the first thing he said was, ‘Okay, but let’s go with the blue and yellow,’ and then when I approached Hugh with that idea, he was like, ‘Fu—k yeah!’”
In another conversation withEW, Levy shared that his decision to go with the comic-accurate costume was that he wanted to do right by the character this time.
“Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right.”
Levy will not miss on the opportunity to give Wolverine his best outing, as this will probably be the last time that fans will see Jackman play the role he is so famously known for his entire career.
Deadpool 3will arrive in theaters this August 15, 2025.
