As the dust settles on the recent announcement that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is swinging its way to PC in January 2025, PlayStation fans are left with a bittersweet taste in their mouths. While it’s great to see the critically acclaimed title reach a wider audience, the fact that it’s shedding its PS5 exclusivity just over a year after release has some loyalists feeling betrayed.

But the real kicker? Insomniac has confirmed that they have no“additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”So much for hoping for a meaty post-release expansion to address the game’s relatively short campaign length.

The Silver Lining:Marvel’s Wolverine

But fear not, true believers! There’s a silver lining to this cloud of disappointment, and it comes in the form of adamantium claws. WithSpider-Man 2officially wrapped, it’s high time for Insomniac to focus their efforts on the game we’ve all been waiting for:Marvel’s Wolverine.

“Dawg where is the DLC”: Insomniac Really Screwed up With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Release, What Loyal PS5 Fans Want is the Promised Post Game Content

Teased way back in the PlayStation Showcase of 2021, this highly anticipated title has been the subject of much speculation and anticipation. However, the massive leak in December 2023revealed far more than Insomniac would’ve ever intended—including gameplay clips, plot details, and even a playable dev build.

In more recent news, industry insiderKurakasishas claimed that Sony is“gearing up to show off some new stuff from Marvel’s Wolverine.”While the exact timing is unclear, Kurakasis believes we could see something before the end of the year, possibly at The Game Awards or a“super-secret event.”

Piecing Together the Clues

So, what do we know aboutMarvel’s Wolverineso far? Thanks to the leaks, quite a bit more than Insomniac probably wanted us to at this stage.

Going by the more “official” hints though—we know that the game will be set in the same universe as Insomniac’sSpider-Mantitles, which opens up some intriguing possibilities for crossovers and cameos. It also goes without saying that the game is being developed exclusively for the PS5, which means fans can expect some truly next-gen visuals and gameplay.

Further, Insomniac haspromiseda“full size, mature tone”experience, suggesting we’re in for a more brutal and adult-oriented take on the Marvel universe than what we’ve seen in theSpider-Mangames. This aligns perfectly with Wolverine’s character and could allow Insomniac to explore darker themes and more visceral gameplay.

Beyond that though, we’re left to speculate based on the leaks and rumors that have trickled out over the past few years. Some key takeaways:

Of course, it’s important to remember that the leaked content was from an early build, and a lot can change in the course of development. But withSpider-Man 2in the rearview mirror andthe PS5 Pro on the horizon, the stage is set forMarvel’s Wolverineto steal the spotlight, even if some of the surprise has been spoiled for many.
