One of the biggest new features inCivilization 7is the Age system.

This splits the game up into three distinct eras: the Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age, and the Modern Age.Think of it like three separate acts over the course of the game.

With such a big feature comes questions, most notably:what happens when you’re ready to end one age and begin a new one inCiv 7?We’re here to answer that question.

Civ 7 First Crisis Policy

What Happens When An Age Is Ending in Civ 7?

When aCiv 7Age is ready to end, a crisis will start.

These events are similar to those that broke up various eras in history, such as the fall of Rome or Constantinople.

Civ 7 Crisis Policies

Once a crisis begins, you’ll get a warning like the image above.

You’ll have to choose one of the available crisis policies, including a benefit and a downside.

Civ 7 age completed

As the age comes closer to completion, you’ll have to select additional crisis policies.

Finally, once the age is completed, you’ll be asked to regrow and recover from the crisis.

Civ 7 Exploration Age cultures-1

This also means it’s time to choose a new civilization for your leader as you advance to the next age.

Choosing A New Civilization in Civ 7

After getting a recap of how the previous age went, you’ll be taken to a civilization selection screen.

you may choose a newly available culture to continue the game and carry on your leader’s legacy.

You can choose a culture with a similar gameplan as your one from the previous age, or you can adjust the course and set your sights for new goals based on how the game has progressed up to this point.

While your empire and leader will carry over, this gives you a chance to regroup and start the new age on a level playing field.

Your Science and Civic trees from the prior age will be replaced with an updated tree ready for research, and your units will be replaced with appropriate units from the new culture.

How to Raise the Settlement Cap in Civ 7

Safely expand your empire in Civ 7 by raising the settlement cap.

Your First Turn in a New Age in Civ 7

The first turn in your new age inCiv 7has some important steps you need to accomplish before progressing in the game.

First, you must enact your legacy as you rebuild your empire following a crisis.

You won’t be able to carry over all of your past accomplishments.Still, you can set yourself up for success with a combination ofmilitary, economic, cultural, andscientificlegacy policies, as well as some wild card slots.

From there, the game will ask if you’d like to move and rename your capital based on the culture you choose. This isn’t mandatory, and I honestly haven’t seen a positive or negative effect from this unless you’re looking for historical accuracy.

After that, you can progress as usual! It’s like a brand new game ofCiv 7began during your match.
