TheMy Hero Academiamanga ended in August 2024, marking the end of one of the leading Shonen series. Much was expected from the final chapter, but unfortunately, very less was delivered in comparison. Of course, the finale wasn’t a complete failure, but fans had more expectations from Kohei Horikoshi.

Fortunately enough, an epilogue chapter forMy Hero Academiawas released in December 2024, which has been appreciated by fans. The release of the epilogue might have been influenced by the widespread negative opinion of the final chapter. But one thing is for sure: the epilogue greatly profited the manga.
My Hero Academia‘s epilogue was the saving grace for Kohei Horikoshi
My Hero Academiahas won over Shonen fans for a decade, and when the final chapter was yet to be released, anticipation was at an all-time high. Unfortunately, Chapter 430 was not received well by fans and critics alike. From the ever-missing Deku’s father to the origin of quirks and even the current statuses of the Class 1-A heroes who were relegated to the background, a lot of ground was left uncovered.
‘The writing of this entire character arc is flawless’: Don’t Let My Hero Academia’s Botched Ending Make You Forget What Kohei Horikoshi Did With Endeavor
This is when news of the epilogue came in. It was released with Volume 42 (final volume) of the manga and contained 38 pages worth of content.Chapter 431 clarified more things than the actual finale, which made it a hit amongst fans.
In the epilogue, the looming threat of All For One is gone; Lemillion stands as the No. 1 hero while Shoto Todoroki holds the No. 2 spot. There are fewer and fewer villains each year and rehabilitating villains were producing positive results. The chapter also gave major updates on the other characters who belonged to class 1-A. It even acknowledged the elephant in the room, which isDeku and Ochako’s feelings for each other.

My Hero Academia’s epilogue might have been the driving force behind the final volume’s sales
Agraph of the salesof allMy Hero Academiavolumes has been revealed, which shows that the final volume is the one with the highest sales. Of course, volume 42 is the final one of the franchise, and it was bound to grab a lot of eyeballs, but the sales exceeded any other volume.
This might have been due to the epilogue chapter, which is not officially available to read anywhere. Thus, fans have no other choice but to buy the physical volumes. After the highly criticized chapter 430, fans had high expectations for the epilogue, andKohei Horikoshidelivered it.

“I would quit drawing manga”: My Hero Academia Was Never Just a Story Meant to Entertain Fans
It is thanks to the additional 38 pages that the manga ended on a positive note, rather than being another disappointing series that just followed Jujutsu Kaisen’s lead. With over 800k volumes being sold within the first 5 weeks, the epilogue chapter achieved what the actual finale of the manga couldn’t.
My Hero Academiamanga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
