The superhero genre is well known for transporting viewers to alternate realities and keeping them riveted to the screen in anticipation of more. Even though the genre has been in the spotlight for several decades, only a select few movies and shows have been able to claim the golden ticket for masterfully and beautifully interpreting it. The most prominent show in this category isThe Boys, which has been topping the Amazon Prime rankings with its fourth season and diverse characters.

Apart from its engaging and creative storyline and direction, the satirical series is also known for casting several actors fromSupernatural, such as Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jenson Ackles. This is mostly due to Eric Kripke, the showrunner ofThe Boysand the creative force behindSupernatural. Further, to continue the long-standing custom, Jared Padalecki has now joined the cast.

Eric Kripke keeps the tradition alive by getting Jared Padalecki on board forThe Boys

In June itself, it was announced by the showrunner of the series, Eric Kripke, thatThe Boyswould have a fifth and final season. While the news shocked and saddened many, the fanatics also started wondering who the director would bring on board for the last season afterJenson Ackleswas added in the third season and Jeffrey Dean Morgan was brought in for thefourth.

We have talked about a role. I think at this point in my acting life, I only want to work on projects that I really care about or with people that I really care about, and obviously Eric and I are indelibly connected forever

The actor also revealed that it would be an instant yes from his side to join the show immediately if asked to. Interestingly, Padalecki is bidding adieu to his CW-created seriesWalkerafter it was abruptly canceled in May, giving him plenty of time to be a part of the final season. Additionally, he might reunite on screen with his former co-star, Jenson Ackles, who joined the show in the third season to play the evil Soldier Boy.

Even though the character hasn’t made an official appearance in season four yet, Padalecki’s presence could introduce an interesting crossover combination that viewers will want to see.

Even with a low audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes,The Boysbroke multiple viewership records

The Boysbecame an instant success when it debuted the first set of episodes all the way back in 2019. Now with four seasons and the final one on the horizon, the show’s popularity shows no signs of diminishing. According toThe Wrap, on the release of the fourth season, the superhero satirical series continued to be Prime Video’s top performer, with a huge 21% increase in viewership as compared to its previous seasons.

While even with the high ratings, the series had a rather low audience score. For instance, the Tomato meter revealed that the critics who supported the initial three seasons fell within the percentage range of 85 to 98. However, this did not apply to the audience ratings, which were at a 50% low. However, even though the scores have some bearing, they cannot take away from the success the show currently has, which will lead to many more spin-offs in the future.
