With its launch in December 2018, one of the biggest perks of the Epic Games Store (anda key part of its growth on PC) has been its weekly offerings of free games alongside exclusive titles. Tons of great games have been given away for free on EGS over the past year and beyond, with two big name games headlining its offerings next week.
Epic Games revealed thatthe next titles available for free to Epic Games Store userswill beWatch DogsandThe Stanley Parable, giving users a taste of both AAA and indie experiences for free. Both titles be available on the Epic Games Store from the week of March 19-26, and all you have to do is grab them from the store page and add them to your library to keep them forever.
Watch Dogsfirst released in 2014 and introduced players to Ubisoft’s high-tech franchise focused on the world of hacking, through the eyes of protagonist Aiden Pearce. The series eventually was followed up by 2016’sWatch Dogs 2and the upcomingWatch Dogs: Legion, which is set to debut sometime within the next fiscal year. If you’re interested at all in playing through the franchise, it wouldn’t hurt to start with the first game to see where it all began (though I would recommend definitely playingWatch Dogs 2, which is a big improvement from the first game).
The Stanley Parablewas released in 2013 from developer Galactic Cafe, and follows an intriguing narrative of a character named Stanley as he explores a drab office building with an omniscient narrator guiding him. Originally, the game started out as aHalf-Life 2mod and gained popularity in the years before it fully released on PC, and was praised for its unusual narrative framing and player choices. Galactic Cafe is currently working alongside Crows Crows Crows onThe Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, an expanded remaster of the game, that is expected for consoles and PC sometime this summer.
Currently, the Epic Games Store is giving awayAnodyne 2: Return to Dust,A Short Hike, andMutazione, which are all available for free from now through March 19. Given the current state of the world in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, it will certainly help to have some free games to pass the time with.
