Vikings on Trampolines, a new game from D-Pad Studio, the creators of the 2016 indie darlingOwlboywas recently revealed with a gameplay trailer. It is described as a 4-player pixel-art co-op adventure game, whose side-scrolling gameplay mechanics revolve around bouncing on trampolines. As seen in the trailer, characters never seem to simply stay on the ground and walk. They are always in the air, landing only for a moment to jump on a trampoline or some other form of bouncy terrain.
The gameplay seems heavily based on manoeuvring through the air as you bounce, wherein you have to either strike your foes, dodge attacks, claim power-ups, or avoid plummeting to your doom as the platforms move from under your feet. The trailer showed off various forms of play, such as a PvP mode where you can battle your fellow Vikings, and minigames with unique goals, like the sports-looking one with the score tally.
The main focus of Vikings on Trampolines, given its description, seems to be the co-op adventure mode that shows off the 4 Vikings working as a team traversing through stages and fighting bosses.IGN, in their reveal of the game, stated that the number of bosses will be plenty.
Speaking on the adventure mode they said the following; “The story mode puts you on a quest to stop the villain Balloonie and rescue King VI (with numerous boss fights along the way, D-Pad Studio promises).” Vikings on Trampolines was originally a small experimental project which won the studio an indie games award back in 2011. D-Pad Studio went on to say that “After releasing Owlboy, we’ve since returned to the idea and developed it into a fun, fully-fledged, co-op adventure!”
Not a lot else is known about the game, and that includes important details like platform, price, and release date. Not even a release window was given for the game, so it’s still likely a ways away. When it comes to platforms, it’s currently available to wishlist onSteam. IGN stated the game is in development for bothPCandconsoles, but no further specifics were given. As announced viaTwitter, the game’s development team is going to Gamescom 2022, so expect to get more information sometime between August 24th and August 28th.
