Being the creation of Hidetaka Miyazaki that it is,Elden Ringencompasses a lot of lore, much of which is often left hanging forever toward the end. And while being the worst aspect of the game, fans, unfortunately, cannot do anything but start figuring out on their own what the director had in mind.One of the first mysteries that comes to mind is of Godwyn the Golden, also called the Prince of Death. Despite being the very reason why The Shattering occurs and makes everything go haywire, there are not enough interactions, nor is there enough background about the half-dead demigod as much as fans would like, something they have been very clear about since day one.
Godwyn the Golden – What Could Have Been
In all fairness, there is no particular shortage of bosses in The Lands Between, but players have wondered all the time just how huge of an impact Queen Marika’s first child could have had if he had been actively present.

Assassinated on the Night of Black Knives,Godwynis a character that is not coming back anytime soon and is possibly gone for good. However, the real bummer is how there was no mention of him in the recentShadow of the ErdtreeDLC, despite there being clear indications of how he was close to the Empyrean twin Miquella.
Ranking every single demigod from the game, a user fromElden Ring‘s Reddit community even stated how the Prince of Death remains a special case, and it is unfortunate how we will never get to know if he was what could have been the greatest character ever, or even abigger menace than Sir Gideon Ofnir.
At the end of the day, it remains unlikely that the game will be getting another expansion anytime soon, bearing in mind howHidetaka Miyazakihas revealedShadow of the Erdtreewas the only DLCthe game was going to get.However, there remains a silver lining, that being how the franchise isFromSoftware’sbest-selling IP yet, is likely to get a sequel in the future. One in which, perhaps, Godwyn’s return may remain imminent considering the perfect groundwork.
Elden Ring 2? – What to Expect
It is important to note that everything remains speculation for now, as there is no official announcement made by the studio or the known director alike regarding any upcoming installments to the franchise.

However, George R.R. Martin, the famous author who helped write the backstory for the Game of the Year 2022 winner, has recentlyhinted how a movie adaptation for the gamemight be in the works, bringing every fan’s favorite RPG title to life in another form.
If executed perfectly, the boost from the movie might just turn out to be enough to motivate FromSoftware to bring another installment to the franchise, targeting the newly brought-in audience.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see whether or not FromSoftware plans to do anything with Marika’s golden child.
