There’s no denying that Aaron Paul is one of the most legendary figures in Hollywood. The American actor is known for his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman in AMC’sBreaking Badseries during its successful five-year run from 2008 to 2013.

However,Breaking Badwasn’t the only project Paul worked on. He also starred in 2014’sNeed for Speedmovie. The actor had high expectations for the movie and was even interested in a sequel. However, the movie ended up proving to be a disaster, and fans prayed that anotherNeed for Speedmovie would never happen.

Starring as the main character inNeed for Speedmovie just a year after the final episode ofBreaking Badaired was quite a big step in Aaron Paul’s career. “You’ll get chills right up to the end”: Dean Norris on Filming the Most Tense Breaking Bad Scene That Had Zero Dialogues Throughout
In aninterviewbefore the movie’s debut, Paul opened up about the entire development. Initially, he expected the film to follow the path laid down by theFast & Furiousfranchise. However, he got hooked on the project after going through the scripts, realizing that it paid tribute to the classic car culture.
When it was placed in my lap, I instantly thought, “Oh, it’s going another ‘Fast & Furious’ film”. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Those films are super-entertaining. That’s why they’re so highly successful. I read the script and I went, “Oh, wow. This is really interesting.”

Unfortunately, the project failed to deliver and was considered to be one of the worst video gaming adaptations ever seen. Upon its release, it was bashed by critics and fans alike for a terrible storyline and the fact that it focused on a revenge plot rather than the racing culture the producers had promised.
It’s sad to see that this film became an underwhelming project in Paul’s entire filmography. If the film had focused on aspects that excited him initially, the movie could’ve rivaled some of the biggest racing franchises out there, and who knows, it might’ve beenproven to be bigger thanBreaking Badfor the actor.

Need for SpeedFranchise Could’ve Become a Movie Franchise
Even though theNeed for Speedmovie didn’t get the praise it had hoped for, it wasn’t a financial failure by any means. It made $203 million, which is quite incredible when you consider its budget of $66 million. It’s crucial to note that the movie made the majority of its financial gains from international markets such as China.
“So you’re combining Hot Pursuit with Unbound”: EA Seems To Be Relying On Nostalgia To Bring Players Back To Need For Speed
Multiple other aspects of the film suggested that it had the potential to become a franchise to be reckoned with. Stars such as Paul, Keaton, Malek, and Johnson assured that the film had a strong set of actors, and the series could’ve obviously gotten more notable films on board for future entries.
The film was directly based onEA’sNeed for Speedvideo game franchise, and it was a well-known IP that would have allowed it to stay relevant for ages. As it was a racing movie, it shared many things with the Fast & Furious franchise, which was making massive profits around the same time.

Therefore, theNeed for Speedfilm had all the things going for it to become a successful franchise, but it couldn’t materialize.
