The Conjuring 4has finally found a director after much anticipation, and the film will officially be the last mainstay in the franchise. The popular horror franchise, which was created by James Wan, has mostly focused on the cases of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). However, even amidst the excitement, a rather unsettling announcement has left fans in a state of perplexity. Director Michael Chaves, who directed the third installment of the franchise (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), is set to helm the finale.

Yet the clamor for Wan’s return—the mastermind behind the franchise’s inception—remains strong and sensible among fans. THR reports that Chaves is in talks to helm the film, which is supposedly billed as the last installment inThe ConjuringUniverse.
Not James Wan, Michael Chaves Will Helm TheConjuring 4
THRreports that Michael Chaves is in talks to helm the film, which is supposedto be the final chapter inThe Conjuringseries. In light of this, Warner Bros. announced at Cinemacon last year that the film would be calledThe Conjuring: Last Rites;however, according to THR, it is currently just known asThe Conjuring 4.
Having previously been in charge ofThe Nun IIandThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Chaves is familiar with the universe ofThe Conjuring. The screenplayis going to be penned by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the $206.4 million supernatural horror film (2021) with James Wan. However, the plot details are currently unknown.

In October 2022,James Wan, the series creator who also directed the first two films, confirmed that there would be a fourth film; in January 2023, he asked fans to be patient while he continued to work on the project. He gaveCollideran update on the fourth film, stating,
“We are working on it right now. With the Conjuring films, we are very precious about [them]. And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right… the emotion of the Warren stories we want to tell. We just want to make sure that it’s the right thing, the right story that we’re telling.”

AlongsidePeter Safran, Wan is producing the new film again. Nonetheless, the latter’s significant influence onThe Conjuringuniverse cannot be discounted. The franchise became a benchmark in the horror genre under his careful direction and talent for producing spine-tingling experiences. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense that fans yearn for Wan’s return to conclude what he started.

Yeah, Michael Chaves ruined the 3rd one. So I don’t expect 4 will be good. Should’ve never left, James Wan.
