The Martianfeaturing actor Matt Damon is one of the most celebrated movies out there and took the sci-fi genre by storm when it was released in 2015. The plot of the movie centers around an astronaut’s survival on Mars after being accidentally left behind, while NASA works tirelessly to bring him back to Earth. While many were impressed with Damon’s acting, director Ridley Scott also left no stone unturned to make the movie as grand as possible.

But to the surprise of many, Drew Goddard was the project’s original director, until he got on board Sony’sSpider-Manspin-offSinister Six, which never happened.

This was obviously a huge feat given that it was made on a budget of $108 million. The Martianwas based on Andy Weir’s novel and quickly became a fan favorite among the readers. While this information is known to many, what they don’t know is that before Scott,Drew Goddardwas all set to direct the project. He also wrote the screenplay ofThe Martian, something that even Matt Damon was excited about.

During apast interview in 2015, the actor detailed that he didn’t know Goddard personally at the time, so he arranged a meeting with him. After meeting the director, Damon was highly impressed with his vision for the movie. He was ready to move forward with the director, but plans took an unexpected turn, all thanks to Sony.

Matt Damon added“Then suddenly he got Sinister Six (a project which has been canned) and he was like ‘This is my dream.’ Because he’s a comic book guy, and so he took that.”This obviously left Damon and the rest of the production in limbo, and for a while, it looked likeThe Martianmight never happen.

But then Ridley Scott showcased his interest in directing the movie, but the actor was hesitant as he had just doneInterstellarin 2014. Further, he didn’t want to participate in similar kinds of movies, to this Scott replied,“The movies are totally f**king different.”This was enough to get the actor on board and the rest was history.

Matt Damon details why working with Clint Eastwood was a dream come true

Throughout his decades-long career, actor Matt Damon has worked with several great directors such as Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and Ridley Scott to name a few. However, one of his most cherished collaborations was with the iconicClint Eastwood.

So if someone comes up with something, if he likes it he’ll use it and if not he won’t. As a result he really gets the best out of everybody around him. It’s a very permissive environment in which people feel like their work is respected.

Before diving into direction, Clint Eastwood was among the most celebrated actors in the industry withseveral projects to his name. His direction career began in 1971 withPlay Misty for Me, now several decades later at the age of 94, he still continues to create movies.
