However, his perception changed when he got the script. He realized that the story and characters were relatable enough to feel like real life, and so his appreciation turned to excitement for the role.

The newSpider-Manshow truly is quite relatable, according to fans. Mostly because of how diverse and inclusive it is from the start. As such, the internet obviously didn’t take too kindly to his words.

Disney’s new animatedSpider-Manshow has been getting overwhelming praise from the audience due to its amazing characterization, storyline, and not to mention mesmerizing art style. While it seems like the franchise is on a roll because of the amazing animated content it has been putting out for the last few years, there is another unfortunate thing that has become common.

That is, theSpider-Manvoice actors getting tangled up in controversies. Whereas theSpider-Versestar Shameik Moore is still catching strays, Hudson Thames just added his name to the list. As fans are aware,“woke”generally refers to someone or something that is racially, socially, and politically aware, and firmly supports women’s as well as LGBTQ+ rights.

Interestingly, this term is also used by some conservative groups as a derogatory term to accuse people of supporting diversity and inclusivity in different places, be it media or real life. As such, Hudson Thames’ comment didn’t exactly land the way he might have hoped it would, and fans are obviously angry about it.

Fans slam Hudson Thames over his questionable comments on the newSpider-Manshow

The internet inevitably did not take too kindly toHudson Thames’ words, and a heated debate ensued on social media. Many accused him of being a“weirdo”,and claimed,“This is how Spidey should be”. According to them, the show’s diversity and inclusivity are what the real draw is to most fans.

The way it tackles heavy themes with ease doesn’t hurt either. In short, the show works so well because of it being“woke”.Others wondered what might have motivated him to make such a controversial statement.

Some people also claim that Hudson Thames might have done it to gain more attention for the show, or that he’s targeting a particular audience with that statement. A few others also stated that he probably has no idea about what that word even means.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is such a “woke” show and that’s a good thing! Idk what Hudson was smoking, but it just makes him seem like even more of a weirdoVery happy to see a show this diverse that isn’t afraid to handle heavy themes, this is how Spidey should bepic.twitter.com/xslxT4DtDW

It’s definitely the realest thing we got and close to relating with the audience.

Seriously… as I was watching I was like what’s he talking about

I have so many questions. Did he say it to get more attention for the show? Did he mean Woke in another sense? Does he know what Woke means(well the way it’s used now, not the original meaning)?

One of my favorite things about the show already! I just love how real it feels. The diverse representation and tackling of heavy themes is so nice to see. Even comforting considering the current situation in the world

In any case, the show has already started gaining praise in the short time since its release. Thefirst two episodes aired on 29th Januaryand are already a hot topic of conversation among fans. If anything, the anticipation is only building up with a third episode scheduled for 5th February.
