O Yeong-su became one of the most-revered South Korean actors after his role inSquid Game. His role as Oh Il-nam in the Netflix chartbuster brought the first Golden Globe win to South Korea. However, the actor’s image was tarnished after he got an 8-months prison sentence for s*xual misconduct.

While the actor’s misdeeds generated an intense outrage among fans and he was removed from several projects, the current move by his legal team has exceeded all boundaries. The 79-year-old actor was charged with s*xual misconduct twice in 2022 for an incident in 2017. According toBBC, he forcibly hugged and kissed an actress on her cheek. The incident occurred on a walking path in front of the victim’s residence when theGod of Waractor went to a rural area for a theater performance.

After O Yeong-su was proven guilty, he was sentenced to 8 months in prison with two years of suspension with an additional task of completing 40 hours in a s*xual violence treatment program. Nevertheless, as his legal team appealed the case and it went to an appeal hearing at the Suwon District Court’s Criminal Appeals Division 6-1, many problematic aspects came forward.
As per the latest report byYahoo News, the actor’s lawyer has stated to the court that an 8-month prison sentence is too severe. They have added that Yeong-su has already faced social punishment after being out of several projects. They have enraged countless fans by arguing that the actor is very old and does not deserve such a punishment for such a “minor nature of the misconduct“.
