Witchers have many tools and weapons at their disposal, but none are more versatile or extreme than potions. There are so many kinds of potions and decoctions inThe Witcher 3that you’re bound to find some that are super useful for your build. Just be sure to watch the Toxicity limit.
Witcher 3: 10 Best Characters, Ranked
Each character in Witcher 3 flaunts a unique story or personality, but these are surely some of the best and most unforgettable ones.
Monster decoctions usually give subtler effects that last much longer than other potions, but some of them are just as powerful. Decoctions all last 1800 seconds and give you 50 Toxicity, while other potions vary. Here are ten of the most ridiculously potent potions in the game.

10Ancient Leshen Decoction
Drinking this potion will make it so each Sign you cast will increase your stamina regeneration for the remainder of the fight. This one is a staple for builds heavily dependent on using Signs, since increasing your stamina regen will in turn allow you to cast even more Signs.
Stamina is also used to block and sprint, so this is a good choice for fights that require defensive strategies. Unless you’re focused on Signs, the Toxicity from this one probably isn’t worth it. There are other potions much better for defense than this one.

9Reliever’s Decoction
This potion is extremely useful against Specters, allowing you to deal more damage to them and take less from them. It also allows you to prevent them from disappearing or using other abilities. Plus, you’ll get a nice +15% resistance to most damage types.
Specters are fairly common throughout The Witcher 3, so it can be pretty convenient to have something that makes killing them way easier. Many of them also have annoying abilities that are better off avoided, like triplicating themselves. Don’t expect this potion to help out with much else, even with the defensive increases.

8Superior Golden Oriole
Lower tiers of this potion are good for resisting or negating the effects of poison. This ultimate version causes poison effects to heal you instead. There are so many times when you might be poisoned by one of any number of enemies. This potion can be quite underrated in its usefulness.
This potion gives 25 Toxicity and lasts 180 seconds, so there’s no need to wait until you’ve actually been poisoned before drinking it. Since it has no effect unless you are poisoned, that’s a good way to prevent wasting a dose.

7Superior Black Blood
Vampires are one of the most terrifying enemies throughout The Witcher 3, in appearance and abilities. They’re insanely quick and have magic, so this potion helps tremendously. The superior version makes Vampires and Necrophages start bleeding just from being near you, while attacking you causes them to get knocked back and take 30% of that damage instead.
7 Years On, Novigrad’s Still The Best City In Gaming
You can spend long enough here for Roach to get serious abandonment issues.
With a duration of 60 seconds, this potion should hopefully last long enough to help you slay any Vampire. Alghouls are also far easier to kill with Superior Black Blood. However, Vampires are rare and there aren’t too many tough Necrophages out there.

6Nekker Warrior Decoction
The tiny Ogroids this potion is decocted from are infamous for causing mounts to panic and throw off their riders. So, it’s fitting that drinking this will totally prevent your mount from doing just that. You’ll also get 50% bonus damage and attack power while mounted.
Mounted hit-and-run combat can be pretty effective, especially when outnumbered by high-level enemies. This can be one of the most powerful potions of all for dealing with mobs, since you can quickly get away at any time and then return to attack again. Unfortunately, it won’t help much with stronger opponents or those who can fly.
5Noonwraith Decoction
This potion simply reduces the duration you experience Knockdown, Hypnosis, Stun, and Blindness, all by a significant amount. These effects aren’t commonly caused by simpler enemies like humans or ghouls. However, virtually all bosses and other elite enemies can cause at least one of them if not more.

Knockdown is by far the most commonly used of these effects, but all of them can be terribly debilitating. Taking this decoction provides a huge boost for pretty much any tough encounter, since you’ll be able to recover from their special effects very quickly. Yet there are still far stronger potions left.
4Ekimmara Decoction
Drinking this decoction will make it so that 10% of all damage you deal to enemies gets returned to you as Vitality. While there are potions that can restore your full Vitality right away, those are much less limited in usage than this beauty. That’s because this effect, like with other decoctions, lasts for 1800 seconds.
This is definitely the best potion in the game for Vitality gain. The more damage you can do, the more you’ll heal. It’s a very simple effect that can keep you alive all day, and that’s awesomefor a game that takes so long to beat.
3Superior Cat
As if being able to see in total darkness wasn’t good enough, the superior version of Cat also makes you immune to Hypnosis, you gain increased vision range, and you get +10% critical hit chance. Even just low light conditions can benefit from using Superior Cat, since everything becomes easier to see.
With this potion being available so early and its primary effect being so simple, it’s quite easy to take it for granted. Trying to clear out a pitch black cave or other lightless place without Cat can be extremely dangerous. Using a torch or lantern doesn’t even compare.
2Superior Blizzard
Although this potion only lasts for 12 seconds, that time can feel much longer when you use it right. Every enemy you kill during the duration will slow time by 60% for a short while. If you have 3 adrenaline points saved up when that time slows, your actions during that time won’t cost any stamina at all.
This is the ultimate potion for quickly dispatching groups of enemies. With time slowed, their reactions are all terrible, and you have virtually endless openings to attack them. Plus, you can use Signs or maneuver around at no stamina cost.
1Archgriffin Decoction
The strongest potion of all can allow you to deal some seriously impressive damage against tougher enemies, or on higher difficulty settings. That’s because your strong attacks will consume any and all of your stamina to deal 5% of your enemy’s Vitality as bonus damage on each and every hit.
So, basically, if you time things right, you can kill any enemy in the game with as few as 20 strong attacks. While that would certainly be horrible overkill for most enemies you come across, there are indeed monsters who can take that and much more punishment. That makes this potion perfect for playing a new game or New Game + onthe latest update!
