If you own aNintendo Switch, there’s a very high possibility that you’ve encountered one issue that has plagued the console throughout the years, which still hasn’t been resolved by the company.

Most Switch owners will have already guessed what I’m referring to, which is the stick drift problem. If you’re hoping the Switch 2 won’t have this issue due to the new tech and features, we have some bad news for you.

Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Feature Hall Effect Sticks Confirmed

I come as a bearer of bad news. For those hoping Nintendo changes the technology in the Switch 2’s analog sticks, they are improving it, but it won’t incorporate Hall Effect sticks.

This was confirmed by Nate Bihldorff, Senior Vice President of Product Development & Publishing at Nintendo of America in aninterview, who deflected questions about it, though mentioned how quiet the sticks were on the Switch Pro Controller.

When asked if the Joy-Con 2 is using a Hall Effect stick or inpsired by Hall Effect sticks, Bihldorff replied, “Well, the Joy-Con 2’s controllers have been designed from the ground up. They’re not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good.”

Bihldorff adds, “So, I like both, but that Pro Controller, for some reason the first time I grabbed it, I was like, “this feels like a GameCube controller.” I was a GameCube guy. Something about it felt so familiar, but the stick on that especially. I tried to spend a lot of time making sure that it was quiet. I don’t know if you tried really whacking the stick around but it really is [quiet]. I’m thinking back to my Smash Brothers days, where you just whack it. [The Switch 2 Pro Controller] is one of the quietest controllers I’ve ever played.”

This makes swallowing that $449 price tag a wee bit harder, given I assume most gamers tired of the Switch’s stick drift was hoping Nintendo would implement Hall Effects to mitigate this in the follow-up console.

A Nintendo Switch leak from a devkit that had been discovered has several unreleased games, including a canceled Ridge Racer for the platform.

Hall Effect sticks are often used in most “pro” controllers, given they are less prone to stick drift and a lot sturdier to wear and tear. Hal Effect joysticks use magnets and electrical conductors to detect input and movement, which means it offers a contactless way to detect the position of the joystick handle.

This is another blow to the Switch 2’s marketabilty. Not only is the tech weaker compared to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and some of its games costing more, but the chances of the Switch 2 once again. experiencing stick drift is a real possibility.

Earlier today, we reported onone feature modern consoles have that Nintendo isn’t implementing, which isn’t good news by any means.

Odds are, the Switch 2 not featuring Hall Effect sticks won’t harm the console’s sales one bit. Hopefully, whatever tech Nintendo uses to improve the Switch 2’s analog sticks will mean we won’t experience stick drift as frequently as the original Switch.
