Despite this seemingly endless popularity, once July arrived, everything started to change, and the decline in players seems to have no limit. One of the first noticeable things was the community’s vocal complaints on social media.

This reached a point of near harassment against members of the studio, as it seemed Arrowhead couldn’t hit the mark in satisfying players’ demands. The expectations were not realistic at all.

Collaborations are one of the most striking trends in the most popular and high-budget games-as-a-service, such asFortniteorWarzone. These games have more than 200,000 active players every day; obviously, the studios’ reach and budget are greater, but it seems that users prefer these kinds of things.

Clearly, Arrowhead cannot keep up with these trends due to budget limitations. Not all games-as-a-service follow trends, but what they do to renew player interest is changing. Unfortunately, this is something the studio has not been able to do withHelldivers 2.

Players are visibly exhausted of completing the same major orders over and over without a significant change to the overall mechanics. Although the game is less than a year old, the competition is so fierce that players demand massive changes in a brief time.

The lack of creativity in adding content clearly affected players’ perception of the title. Even though the studio confirmed“Escalation of Freedom,”this wave of new content did not please the community and clearly wasn’t enough to attract the attention of the most loyal players.

For example, the community has been requesting a new enemy race from the beginning, which the studio could not add due to time constraints or other reasons.

Is There Room for a Player’s Comeback?

At the moment, the studio doesn’t seem to have figured out how to bring players back toHelldivers 2. But it’s worth noting that the game is still less than a year old, and it could easily deliver a major update that captures users’ attention.

One factor that worked against the studio was the outlandish expectations set by other games likeFortniteorWarzone, which have more employees and larger budgets.

This game is quite unusual because the community’s own expectations became something entirely unattainable for a studio that doesn’t have the tools to generate that much content in such a short time.

Most likely, over time, the number of active players for this title will settle at a slightly higher number than the current one, which is roughly between 20,000 and 30,000 active daily players. The game may have found its ceiling.
