Igon Voice Actor Talked About The Experience Of Working On Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Richard Charles Lintern voiced one of the most iconic characters inElden Ring‘sShadow of the ErdtreeDLC. In terms of his dialogue, he didn’t have much but still, working with Hidetaka Miyazaki proved to be challenging for him.

“Whoever designed this st is fked up”: Hidetaka Miyazaki Has 1 Less Fan as Elden Ring Player Can’t Take it Anymore

In a recent interview withIGN, Lintern explained that he didn’t directly interact with Miyazaki due to the language barrier but Miyazaki was very much involved in the process.

He expected his recording session to be short, but he spent “maybe five or six hours” recording his lines since Miyazaki is well known for being a perfectionist. Lintern said,

“Whoever designed this st is fked up”: Hidetaka Miyazaki Has 1 Less Fan as Elden Ring Player Can’t Take it Anymore

I would perform one of the lines – and then there would be a quite extensive conversation between Mr. Miyazaki and various other people around him in the room. Largely, I think the way things worked was, one of the other people would then speak to Adam, and explain what direction Mr. Miyazaki wanted to move in. But he, the mysterious figure in the center of the room, was very much in control of the entire operation.

Lintern explained that his recording could’ve been done in seven minutes but he ended up recording his lines “hundreds of times.” The job was challenging, but Lintern admitted that it was a good experience.

Further in the interview, Lintern explained that the experience was completely different from anything he had worked on before. He added that everyone at FromSoftware, especially Hidetaka Miyazaki, was very serious about Igon’s dialogues,

The attention to detail that was given to the character and the performance was pretty much greater than anything I’ve experienced before – Comparable with characters in Shakespeare that I’ve played and stuff. People were taking it extremely seriously.

In the end, Lintern’s hard work paid off as Igonis easily one of the most popular NPCs in the gamenow. Igon’s monologue when he is summoned to aid the player in the fight against Bayle the Dragon is one of the main reasons why players love the character and it’s all because of Lintern’s efforts and Miyazaki’s vision.
