During today’s Inside Xbox,Bloober Teamrevealed its upcoming gameThe Mediumis coming to Xbox Series X and PC Holiday 2020. You can check out the trailer below.
If you couldn’t guess by the Polish developer’s track record (they are the makers ofBlair Witch,Observer, andLayers of Fear),The Mediumis a psychological horror game based on the idea of “how your perspective changes your perception.” You will play as Marrianne, a medium who can travel between the real world and the spirit world.
“Every one of our games has a central theme that drives its creative and technological design. InThe Medium, we focus on perspective and perception. When you change your point of view, you discover that things are more complicated and nuanced than you initially thought," said Piotr Babieno, CEO at Bloober Team in the press release. “The Mediumis our most ambitious game ever and we can’t wait to show you how we’re translating this vision into a psychological horror.”
It was also announced that Akira Yamaoka, most known for his work on theSilent Hillseries, will be working with Bloober Team on an original ‘dual’ score forThe Medium.
“The inclusion of the legendary Akira Yamaoka - best known for his work on theSilent Hillfranchise - is a dream come true,” said Babieno. We’ve been inspired by many of the previous games he has worked on and are thrilled to bring a new one to life withThe Medium.”
Personally, I am pretty excited aboutThe Medium. I recently playedObserverand absolutely loved it despite some technical issues I had with the Xbox One version. I’ve also played a bit ofBlair WitchandLayers of Fear. While I didn’t finish them, I thought the haunting atmosphere each presented was very effective.
Speaking ofObserver, the next-gen remaster of the cyberpunk horror game, titledObserver: System Redux, is coming to next-gen hardware later this year. If you’re into horror, it seems there will be no shortage of scares coming to the Xbox Series X when it launches this Holiday season.
