When you have a range of characters likeOne Piece, some fans wish for unlikely people to bump into each other and interact. It might not come true in the canonical chapters of the story but it doesn’t mean Eiichiro Oda himself hasn’t thought of these interactions either. The mangaka has drawn up a conversation between two of the most unlikely people inOne Pieceto speak: Usopp and Monkey D. Garp. The panels were meant to be in the Post-Enies Lobby Arc but were omitted in the manga.

Nobody would expect the Hero of the Marines and the Straw Hat sniper to have anything to talk about. Even the Vice Admiral was quite baffled when Usopp approached him in the forgotten panel. However, their conversation shows a new side of Usopp who is still worried about his father, Yasopp of the Red Hair Pirates. Garp ends up giving him a new piece of information about him that reassures the sniper that his father might be one of the most feared pirates inOne Piece. The conversation’s omission from theOne Piecemanga and the anime was disappointing, to say the least.

Usopp Still Has Hope for His Father After Everything

Usopp’s backstory might not have the magnitude of tragedy like Nico Robin’s or Bartholomew Kuma’s but the Straw Hat sniper had his own fair share of trauma. At a very young age, Yasopp left Syrup Village to become a pirate after his wife, Banchina, insisted on following his dreams. However, Usopp’s mother would then die from an illness, leaving the young Usopp alone to fend for himself. There’s even no confirmation if Yasopp knows his wife died as the sniper never came back or seems sad about her. Despite all of this, Usopp has an undying pride for his father and still loves him.

Some fans also question whether this delusional spell of Yasopp being a good father in Usopp’s mind will ever break. The Straw Hat sniper hasn’t physically met his father yet but the two have been seen reacting and talking about each other here and there. However, this hidden panel shows how worried Usopp still is for his father. He even asks if he might be dead.Monkey D. Garpthen confirms how feared his father still is, earning the title “Chaser” Yasopp. It’s an unexpected but wholesome interaction that should’ve never been thrown away byEiichiro Oda.

In Water 7, Oda omitted a wholesome talk between Usopp and Garp.✨Garp: Who are you? Did you just mention Yasopp?Usopp: Yes, sir. Do you know if he is well..or if he is still alive?Garp: Why are you asking me that? Who the hell are you?Usopp: Well, I’m just a passerby.Bogard:…pic.twitter.com/3zVZGqDOME

SomeOne Piecefans strongly believe Yasopp is a deadbeat dad and this panel still doesn’t prove anything. The talk with Garp is a very cute interaction but they still hope Usopp will stop believing his dad is a good person.

Usopp’s Ideal Image of His Father inOne Piece

Usopp is definitely holding onto hope since childhood that his father will come back or they will reunite one day. That’s probably why the sniper was so worried he was dead too. It seems that Usopp was unconsciously disappointed by Yasopp’s absence when his mother died at least but kept up the illusion that he was busy at sea.

You can never fault a child for coping with the loss of a parent and the absence of the other. His interaction with Garp would’ve enriched this side of Usopp that we don’t get enough of which would’ve been more impactful if he finally reunites with his father.
