The ’70s sitcom became a favorite among children and teenagers, who loved to see the sibling dynamics between the three brothers and three sisters. However, they apparently shared more than sibling love off-screen.
The Brady Bunchsaw Robert Reed’s Mike Brady and Florence Henderson’s Carol Martin marry each other, both having been married earlier with kids. Mike has three sons—Greg, Peter, and Bobby—and Carol has three daughters—Marcia, Jan, and Cindy. The couple adopts each other’s children and the sitcom explores this unconventional big family.

Robert Reed passed away in 1992 after being diagnosed with colon lymphoma. Florence Henderson died from heart failure on Thanksgiving day in 2016. Ann B. Davis died at the age of 88 in 2014.
Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia, went through tough times in her personal life after the series. McCormick was addicted to cocaine and quaaludes, which deeply affected her career. She also suffered from depression and bulimia.

The Brady Bunchbrought together a bunch of teenage and child actors on the set for nearly five years. While they played siblings in the sitcom, fans often wonderedwhether they shared the same feelings outside of the show. According to Barry Williams, they did not. The actor toldUs Weeklythat the cast hooked up with each other at some point. He shared:
We all hooked up with each other at some point. Not necessarily while we were filming.
Williams shared that they dated each other corresponding to their age. He had dated Maureen McCormick while Christopher Knight dated Eve Plumb. Williams also recalled that the youngest pair, Mike Lookinland and Susan Olsen“had a little mock wedding at one point.”
Why Was TV Sitcom “Home Improvement” Canceled?
Williams wrote in his book,Growing Up Brady, that Lookinland and Olsen would often make out in the doghouse on set (via Us Weekly). Olsen later commented on this relationship withnews.com.au, sharing,“We led a sheltered life for part of the year so if there was anybody to get a crush on or try to date, it would be our counterparts.”She also told the site that Plumb had a crush on Knight.
However, it was McCormick’s 2008 memoir,Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My Voice, that went into steamy details about the relationships on set. She reflected on her relationship with Barry Williams in her book, describing their first kiss as“long, passionate, and deep”(via TV Guide). She shared that it happened when the cast visited Hawaii to film the first episode ofSeason 4. She shared (via Us Weekly):
As soon as I stepped off the plane, I started to think about him more intensely in the way I had fantasized for a long time. We had spent the past three and a half years staving off the desire of a mutual attraction despite the intimacy of working closely with each other every day.
She also shared another intimate moment with Williams during their tour of their second studio album,Meet the Brady Bunch. They performed a duet together where they were on opposite sides of the stage and approached each other slowly. McCormick shared that the choreographed romantic moment had so much sexual tension that they“didn’t have to pretend.”
McCormick’s revelation that she had a lesbian affair with Plumb, who played her little sister, did not sit well with the latter. It was reported that they had a long-standing feud, possibly sparked by this revelation (via New York Post).
The Sitcom’s Older Kids Had A Crush On Their TV Parents
Maureen McCormick also wrote about her other crush on the set ofThe Brady Bunch. She had her eyes set on the TV family patriarch, actor Robert Reed. McCormick shared that she was one of the last people, who found out that Reed was a closeted gay man. She shared about her crush on the actor in her memoir (via Cheat Sheet):
I also liked working closely with Bob Reed in the ‘Father of the Year’ episode. I always had a thing for older men, including Bob. … I used to ima gine running off with him.
It wasn’t just McCormick who had a crush on her TV parent. Barry Williams shared with Us Weekly that he took Florence Henderson on a date. He shared that he had asked Henderson on a date to a nice restaurant where a singer was playing. She was kind enough to say yes to him and Williams even shared that he got a kiss at the end of the date. Henderson recalled the experience in aPEOPLEinterview in 1991:
He had a crush on me, and he asked me out for a date, which I’ll never forget. The crush was a very serious thing for him, so I was never condescending. I certainly liked him too, but I wasn’t exactly the Cher of the TV mom set.
Susan Olsen had to later clear up rumors that Williams and Henderson had an affair on the set. She shared withFox Newsthat Williams had a crush on her and Henderson was kind enough to understand this puppy love. She shared:
Barry had a crush on her. She was very kind to him. She let him take her out for her birthday. So I don’t like the implication that’s been out there, that something was going on with them. There wasn’t anything going on with them except for mutual respect and love.
It appears that the children’s attraction to the elders on the show was merely a crush and nothing more.
The Brady BunchCast’s Serious Relationships
Outside ofThe Brady Bunch, the actors had some serious relationships. Robert Reed was married to Marilyn Rosenberger from 1954 to 1959. Henderson was married twice, first time to Broadway producer Ira Bernstein and then to hypnotherapist Dr. John George Kappas.

According to Susan Olsen,The Brady Bunchwas supposed to get a modern revival at CBS with a producer and showrunner attached to it. However, it was her controversial political stances that nipped the idea in its bud. Appearing on theWalk Away Campaignpodcast, Olsen claimed that CBS didn’t want her in the show over her past remarks. She shared:
I am what I was going to portray, so what kind of show would this be if I can’t say anything controversial? I did have a phone call with my [TV] siblings and my agent. Everybody was saying, ‘we’re sorry, but they just won’t budge. They just will not have you in this.’ I was like wow, I’ve been canceled. A role that I’ve played for over 50 years, I can’t play it now because I’m too dangerous. I was like ‘well, okay guys, good luck, I hope you can sell it.’
Olsen wanted her character to be a libertarian podcaster like her real self. She shared that Cindy could also do“some animal rescue”like her. Besides her controversy with actor Leon Acord-Whiting, CBS’s concern with Olsen was allegedly a 50-page-long internal dossier. According toEW, she made some controversial remarks against COVID-19 vaccines and children undergoing transgender surgery. Olsen shared:
They did a web search, and they came up with 50 pages. The resounding result was no, we cannot have her in a show. If we go forward with this project, it will not be with her.’ To be honest, those 50 pages were my greatest hits. I stand by everything I said.
