Liev Schreiber is known to Marvel fans for his role as Sabretooth inX-Men Origins: Wolverine, replacing Tyler Mane from theX-Menfilms. He reunited with hisKate & Leopoldco-star Hugh Jackman to play his antagonistic brother in the film. Schreiber had a huge misconception about superhero film roles, which Jackman taught him not to be true.

Schreiber shared that he never thought that actors in these films had to actually build their bodies to fit the character. TheRay Donovanactor believed that the muscles on them were something not real and brought on by the superhero suit. Jackman told him that he had to work out to portray a ripped superhero/supervillain.

He shared that he was excited when he got the invite fromHugh Jackmanto join his film but realized that it was a superhero film. Schreiber had one misconception about playing the role and it was clarified only after talking to Jackman.

TheScreamactor asked Jackman if there was a suit for him that could add muscles to him for the role.The Prestigeactor told him that the muscles in these films were real and actors had to work out for the role. Schreiber shared about realization withGQ:

Initially, I was so excited when Hugh came to me, and then I realized, ‘Oh, this is a superhero thing.’ I went to Hugh and I said, ‘There’s a suit, right?’ And he’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ I was like, ‘Cause, you know, the muscles and everything, that’s not real, is it?’ He’s like, ‘Ah, mate, you gotta work out.’ That was the beginning of my tutelage, Hugh teaching me how to train.

Schreiber shared that Jackman opened this whole new aspect of acting for him that he never thought was part of his acting toolkit. He learned from theDeadpool & Wolverineactor to take advantage of your body for a role. He further shared:

There was this part of my toolkit as an actor that I wasn’t taking advantage of, that I always thought your body is your body and that, you know, changing it was not part of it for me. And Hugh taught me how to do that.

TheHamletactor shared that he had fun filming for theWolverinefilm. He shared that he had done a bunch of stunts and fight choreography that he always wanted to do. He shared that he looked back on the time on the set with Jackman with fond memories.

Liev Schreiber Shared That He Was Not Called Back For The Role

While the story of Wolverine continued for two more films in the FoxX-Menfranchise, Liev Schreiber only appeared in that one film. When he asked about why he didn’t return toLogan, Schreiber shared thatthe makers didn’t ask him to. He went on to explain that he was not part of the story. However, Schreiber added that he would always love to bring back Victor Creed anytime in anX-Menfilm. He shared with GQ:

They didn’t ask me! No, I mean… I don’t think it was, I don’t think he was part of that story. I would’ve loved to bring Victor back, anytime, anywhere. But it wasn’t part of that narrative.

Schreiber wasn’t considered for the role when Ryan Reynolds’ latestDeadpoolfilm brought back the character. Nevertheless, Schreiber is happy thatReynolds was able to correct the Deadpool mistakeinX-Men Origins: Wolverine. He shared,“Ryan did such a great job with that transition, ’cause I felt like it was, in many ways, so antithetical to who that character was in Origins.”
