Weatherly’s answer left Harmon puzzled. But he shrugged it off and took the high road, not letting the jab disrupt his cool.Weatherly revealed,
When CNN Showbiz Today or one of those things asked what was the best part about doing the pilot when we were doing the upfronts, I said, ‘I got a rubber gun and I got a fake badge.’
He continued, adding:
Harmon looked at me like, ‘That is your CNN answer?’ [Laughs.] And I was like a little kid who had one too many bowls of Count Chocula.
While their on-set dynamic was far from smooth at first, Weatherly later revealed the two were like polar opposites. Their contrasting personalities led to tension, but eventually, he came to understand Harmon’s serious approach to the show. He admitted,
Mark Harmon and I were on different poles. I was Antarctica, he was the North Pole and we were just looking down there going, ‘What is up with your polarity? What’s going on? The water goes down the drain the other way for me.’ … He was confused by my presence right from the get-go.
The two, however, have patched things up. After Weatherly became the lead ofBull, he found himself reflecting on the work ethic Harmon had instilled in him. Finally appreciating his focused mindset, Weatherly called it extremely illuminating.
