Muneyuki Kaneshiro’sBlue Lockhas taken the anime and manga industry by surprise as the series tells the never-before-seen tale of creating the best striker in Japanese football. The show takes a different approach to the sport, where the player’s ego is necessary to not only guarantee their survival but also help them to grow as a player.

Aside from Isagi Yoichi, the protagonist of the show, it features many characters who are absolute ballers and elevates the standard of the game. Kaneshiro-Sensei believes that despite the show featuring so many names, there is only one player who can elevate the attacking play and bring out the best in Japan’s national team.
The player is none other than Rin Itoshi, the #1 player of Project Blue Lock. Though showcasing his playing style in the second season of the series, he soon made the fandom go crazy for him, as he is self-sufficient enough to turn the tide of a match.

Muneyuki Kaneshiro Feels Something Special About Rin Itoshi
Even though Muneyuki Kaneshiro’sBlue Lockfollows the story of Isagi Yoichi battling against other players who share the same dream as him, that is, to become the best striker in the Japan Football Association. One such player is Rin Itoshi, though he was first ranked at 221 during the first season.
After the multiple selection process, his rank jumped exponentially, followed by the clearance of the second selection, and he was revealed to be the #1 striker of the program. Rin showcased his skills in the second episode of the show, where he proved himself to be the most complete player and why he deserves to be at the top.

Though showcased as arrogant, fans love him for his ability to dribble with the ball and shoot from the most unnatural of positions. As a result, viewers think of him as the protagonist of the series, but it turns out it’s not just them, as the mangaka feels the same about him too.

The summary stated that he would love to include Rin in the center, who would attract the opponents’ attention, where they think of him as“that guy (in the center) is really dangerous.”This thought pattern would be immensely beneficial for the Japanese team, as their flank attacks would be even more effective.

Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s “Biggest Difficulty” Makes Blue Lock Inferior to Haikyuu
With a fluid playing style on the field and a perfect vision to deliver the perfect passes or shots to decide a game, he ticks all the criteria to be the greatest footballer on the planet. The mangaka has not just given the character extraordinary skills but a mesmerizing storyline as well.
Blue Lock’sCreator Feels Pity for Rin Itoshi
Though Kaneshiro-Sensei has featured Rin to be the most electrifying and handsome character in the series, later in the same interview, he praised the character for his eyelashes and his bangs being“super cute,”and he really likes it.
However, internally, he is struggling the most; we have seen in the story that he strives hard to get out of his older brother’s shadow, Sae Itoshi. Despite being immensely talented, he often finds himself internally struggling and fuels himself to beat him.

Blue Lock Season 2’s Awful Animation Quality Might Finally Make Sense, It Was Never a Priority to Begin With
In the same interview, the author of the series talked about Rin’s identity, and how he has a “kind of glow” that gives a powerful sense to self. He said,
Boys around Rin’s age don’t really have a firm grip on their identity. There is a kind of glow just before they realize that ‘I’m not so great’ and lose their all-powerful sense of self. I like that kind of transition.
The manga author further added that he deliberately instilled complicated feelings in the character, especially towards his brother and the beautiful game, so that he is“forced to grow up.”
Rin represents the loss of that spark as he’s being forced to grow up. I think that’s why Rin deliberately complicates his feelings toward his older brother and soccer, as well as his sense of self.
MAPPA May Never be Able to Escape the Clutches of Controversy and Blue Lock Season 2’s Declining Quality is a Testament of That
