Harada also shared that more than 54 million copies have been sold for the entireTekkenseries.First released in arcades in 2015, Tekken 7 launched a console version in 2017. Tekken 7 is the most recent installment in the classic fighting game franchiseTekken, which holds the record for the longest continuous story line of any video game. Despite Tekken 7’s commercial success, some fans have voiced their dissatisfaction with the game in online forums. Players noted that the customization options were limited and unattractive in comparison to the options available inTekken 6. Fans also commented on Tekken 7’s lackluster story mode, which some felt set a new low for the franchise’s notoriously messy storytelling.
Some gamers are hoping that the next installment in the series,Tekken 8, will be more similar to the sixth installment than to the seventh. In terms of story, it looks like Tekken’s narrative team is sticking to tradition. However, as revealed in a trailer atThe Game Awards, Tekken 8 is shaking things up by featuring the return ofJun Kazama, Jin Kazama’s mother. Jun’s reappearance in the series may signal investment into a better story mode for the upcoming title. Gamers will have to wait until 2023 or later to see if the storytelling of Tekken 8 is a step forward from that of Tekken 7.
