LikeAbzu, one of Giant Squid’s previous titles, Sword Of The Sea features a handful of aquatic animals that you’re able to ride upon just for the vibes. There aren’t quite as many here in comparison, but they still make forawesome moments that are all definitely screenshot-worthy.

The cool bonus to riding animals in Sword Of The Sea is also that seven specific creatures will also give you trophies once you hop back off the beast after your ride. Every trophy hunter or fan of whales will want to partake in all these activities, so allow me to show you how to find what you’re looking for.

Below, we’ll get into how to find all seven creatures. Just keep in mind that we’re only going to go over the ones that are trophy-related. There are a few other rideable critters in the game too, like a manta ray and a sea turtle, but you won’t get any rewards for hopping on their backs.

Six out of the seven animals below are found mostly through main story progression, with one exception. As such, you won’t have trouble tracking these down. Just make sure you’re taking the time to hop on the backs of anything you can to get all the trophies. For the only actuallyhidden rideable, jump down to #4, the Elasmosaur.

#1 - Orca - Veiled Sea

A pod of orcas will be the first rideable that you discover in Sword Of The Sea. In the first level, Veiled Sea, you’ll eventually reach a fork in the road designated by a locked gate and two giant trails of chains leading left and right from both sides.

The orcas will be found on the path to the left. You’ll eventually reach a circular building with a moss-covered roof. Inside, light the lanterns to spawn a trail of jellyfish upwards. Platform off the tops of the jellies to reach a landing with a giant blue orb.

Once you interact with the blue orb, the orcas will show up. Hop on the back of whichever one you please, and the first trophy related to this activity is yours.

#2 - Archelon - Lost Grotto

Once again, the archelon is a creature that is guaranteed to spawn along the critical path of the game. In the level Lost Grotto, you’ll reach a giant dolphin statue as pictured above. Interact with the blue orb here, and a school of archelon will spawn back at the group of towers and rooftops you just platformed on before.

A chain has also now spawned right next to the dolphin statue, and you can ride it back to the area with the archelon. Hop on for a ride, and that’s one more rideable off your list.

This level also features regular sea turtles before this stage. You can ride on these turtles, but they aren’t trophy related and are not archelon. You’ll know you’ve spawned the archelon when you notice giant turtles with moss/grass on their shells and heads.

#3 - Humpback Whale - Shadow Tundra

Up next is another animal that will spawn after a story beat. In the Shadow Tundra, you’ll be thrust into a bitter, cold, snowy world for the first time. After carefully navigating the early portions of the level, you’ll start to notice giant statues of warriors that are guiding you in the right direction of the blizzard.

Follow along this path until you reach an especially large statue that you’ll climb up the inside of before finding yourself on top of its outstretched arm. In its palm is another interaction point, which will then spawn several humpback whales, as well as some kelp stalks you’re able to use to climb upwards.

Backtrack slightly from this location and use the kelp to climb high enough near a humpback whale to hop on. Easy.

#4 - Elasmosaur - Shadow Tundra

The Elasmosaur is the only rideable animal in the game that you’ll miss if you don’t go a bit out of your way for it. This one is also located in the Shadow Tundra level. After enough natural progression, you’ll reach the base of a steep, icy mountain. This is also where you’ll first be introduced to the boost charges in Sword Of The Sea.

To find the Elasmosaur, climb up the right side of the mountain using the boosts until you see an elevated stone path leading backwards. You’ll need to surf to the start of this pathway, then follow it over a massive jump to reach a giant gateway across this chasm.

Inside, you’ll find the giant skeleton of a creature long since deceased. Grind on the skeleton’s spine to reach the inside of its jaw, where another orb to interact with can be found. After doing so, the Elasmosaur will appear, and you can take a ride.

#5 - Sperm Whale - Sacred River

The sperm whale is impossible to miss, unless you deliberately decide not to hitch a ride. This is the first of three rideables found in theSacred River. After the first portion of the level inside the church, you’ll reach a giant, circular arena with a gate directly across from you. In the center of the room is a platform with another orb to interact with, which is required to unlock the gate and proceed.

After doing so, a pod of sperm whales will appear. Pick your favorite option and jump right on.

#6 - Whale Shark - Sacred River

I love whale sharks, so this next one was my favorite rideable in the game. Once again, we’re in the Sacred River for this one. After some more main path progression, you’ll reach an area with two small boats on elevated stone platforms with chains feeding into both of them.

Light the lanterns surrounding both boats, interact with the gem on both of their roofs, and they’ll haul up a giant sunken ship from below the water. Using the freshly spawned jellyfish, jump onto the deck of this giant ship.

Here, you’ll find a halfpipe with two interactable beacons sitting on top of two stone pillars on opposite sides of the halfpipe. Use your momentum and press square to activate these beacons, which will spawn boosters and more jellyfish to get you all the way up to the elevated central portion of the ship.

Once here, interact with the next blue orb, and all the whale sharks will appear. You know what to do.

#7 - Blue Whale - Sacred River

Finally, we’ve reached the last creature you’ll need to ride upon in order to earn all of these related trophies. Luckily, there’s not much to this one either. The blue whale can’t be missed if you’re completing the main path of the story, so don’t stress about finding it.

You’ll eventually reach the last area of the Sacred River. You’ll know you’re in the correct place, because it’s the part of the map where shooting stars are constantly landing on the ground all around you.

Inside one of the three towers in this area is a locked gate surrounded by a sort of halfpipe moat. Use your shredding skills to get high enough and hop inside the area these locked gates were blocking. This summons a bunch of kelp hanging from chandeliers. Work your way up to the top, interact with the blue orb, and the school of blue whales will spawn.

The blue whales are mildly tricky to jump on top of from this tower. It may be easier to jump back to the ground, then climb up a freshly grown kelp plant outside to get high enough and time a jump onto a blue whale.
