Maybe this is just a sign of my relatively technology-free upbringing, but I still remember summer days spent down by the pond collecting tadpoles, only to take them home, watch them mature into big ol' frogs, and then promptly bring them back to their little watering hole.
So, you could say that my interest in collecting frogs has been a thing since childhood, making it a perfect side quest as I worked my way through the excellent Journey-esque adventure, Sword of the Sea.
These frogs are pretty hard to track down as they tend to be located in hard-to-reach areas, often far from the natural path the player will explore. But, if you’re a diligent explorer, and use this handy guide, you’ll be able to find these cute little croakers before too long.
Please be aware that the developer (Giant Squid) informed us after we had completed these collectible guides that they had plans to relocate these assets in their final update. However, we were given no warning of this via pre-release documentation. We are working under the assumption that all Frogs will still be located as listed below. However, these guides may be slightly inaccurate through no fault of our own. We will endeavor to amend them if needed when a day-one patch becomes available.
The Veiled Sea
This frog is located in the large open area near where you cleanse the sunken building and solve the two-fountains puzzle. After you cleanse this area and repair the chain, you should use this chain to get up onto the cliff side nearby, and when you do, you should be able to spot a little area with a pool of water.
After you find this area, head out toward the broken bridge that leads to nowhere and look down. You’ll then see descending bridge platforms which you should drop to, and on the third bridge platform, you’ll find the Desert Frog sitting on its plinth.
While you’re down there on the bottom platform, look down and to the left, as there is an even lower platform with a hidden Shell.
The Lost Grotto
To get this frog, you’ll want to just proceed through the level as normal until you reach the tallest point of the map and activate the chain. Then, once you have done that, if facing the same way as the Dolphin Statue, turn left, and you should see a narrow rooftop walkway down below.
It may look like a dead-end, but drop down there, walk the narrow path, and then climb up the rocks at the end of the rooftop. This will take you to a hidden area behind where you’ll find your second frog, the Bullfrog.
Shadow Tundra
Again, when searching for this frog, you’ll want to proceed through the level as normal until you reach the final open area where you need to activate the three towers to open the exit door.
When you get there, you’ll want to head off to the left and around the huge chasm in the middle, doing your best to collect some boost, as you’ll need that to make a jump soon.
Head all the way up to where the exit door is with full boost, and then start heading down the hill at speed, sticking to the right-hand side. Where, eventually, you’ll see an opportunity to hit your boost and clear a gap leading to a broken bridge platform, where you’ll find the Horned Frog.
Sacred River
To gain access to this frog, you will need to work your way through the level naturally until you raise the ship and activate the chain to take you to the higher levels of the map.
Once you do this, briefly ride the chain to gain some height, and then look to your right, where you will see a platform down below that you will be able to reach with a well-timed jump and water rail combo.
Once you land, head to the boat hanging off the edge of the cliff, and sitting proudly will be your penultimate frog. The…
Boiling Cavern
Finally, we have the frog that clearly couldn’t stand the heat of this final level on account of the fact that, when you happen upon it, it’s not currently occupying the land of the living.
However, you’ll be able to find the ghostly shade of the Skeleton Frog if you work your way through the Boiling Cavern to the area just before the room with all the skeletons' spines that you’re able to grind on.
Instead of going through the door that takes you through to the final room, head right, and you’ll see a means of platforming to a boat up above, and on that boat, you’ll find the remains of what was a very cute frog.
