We know theSwitch 2has sold incredibly well, but it’s set records for the whole gaming industry.
The console famously surpassed its predecessor’s first month salesin a matter of days, ultimately doubling it with a total of some5.4 million units sold within its first month.

Such monumental sales numbers have had a strong impact on the gaming industry in the US in particular, according to Mat Piscatella of industry analytics firm Circana, who posted athreadon Bluesky going over the numbers.
Not only was the Switch 2 the fastest-selling game console of all time in the US, but consumer spending for game hardware and accessories reached an all-time high for the month of June.

Pulling Impressive Numbers
US consumer spending on video games, hardware, and accessories for June 2025 was up a staggering 22% from last year. The annual spending to date is lower than this time last year by 2%, but trending upward after last month.
The games on the Switch 2 have also been performing well, withMario Kart Worldtaking third place in best-selling games for the month, behindElden Ring: NightreignandDeath Stranding 2, not even counting digital sales, despite being part of a bundle.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card Won’t Be Stuck With Anti-Consumer DRM
Gamers will be able to lend and resell their Switch 2 game-key cards confirmed,
Coincidentally, we also knowMario Kart World came in third for eShop salesas well, but we don’t have any hard numbers to add to the Circana metrics.
Mario Kart World also topped the Switch 2 sales charts (again, not counting digital), followed by physical sales ofCyberpunk 2077and combined digital and physical sales ofRune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, a different story from the eShop charts.
It’s impressive that the Switch 2 has been able to have such an impact on the game industry and hit such numbers even afterthe chaos of pre-ordersandearly stock issues.
Hopefully it will continue to pull in good numbers going forward after this strong start, and to stay a good platform for a mix of the usual first-party releases while also managing to draw in a wider range of third-party titles.
