A Twitter user by the name ofUnlisted Cheatsrecently discovered a specific button combination that allows players to engage in a pseudo-2-player mode in the SNES game, Super Punch-Out!!. This is indeed a functional cheat found in 2022, for a game that originally came out in 1994.
The commands allow the first player to select any of the game’s opponents, even if you’ve never played them before. Then, a second player can pick up a second gamepad and take control of said opponents, using their special moves and everything.

Punch-Out!! (2009)
If you want to try out the cheat for yourself, make sure you’ve got two gamepads connected to the game. Then, on the title screen, one must first hold Y and R with the second controller. Then, with the first controller press A or Start (which would be the + button on a Switch controller). Instead of the standard menus, you’ll reach a select screen where you can pick any of the game’s opponents, and play a single exhibition fight. Furthermore, by holding B and Y with the second controller, then pressing A or Start on the first one, the CPU will be controllable by Player 2.
A reasonable speculation made by some is that the purpose of this command was likely to test out the effects and animations of enemy moves in a convenient manner. The last Punch-Out!! game to release was for the Nintendo Wii in 2009. Since then, the series has been dormant, and it’s unknown whether Nintendo will ever continue it. So, fans of the franchise will likely get a kick out of playing as some of these old-school opponents, especially since it’s the only bit of “new content” they’ve gotten for a while.
If you are an avid Nintendo Switch user, you’ll want to make sure you’re up to date on all of thenewest releases arriving between August 8th and August 12th. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered.
