Since we are heading close to the release of season 4, here’s a recap ofStranger Thingsseason 3 with everything important that happened so far.

It’s been almost three years since the release ofStranger Thingsseason 3. So the committed fans of the series had to wait for the coon’s age for the show’s renewal, which kind of seems unfair. But the show makers had their hands tied due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Just a few months after the shoot forStranger Thingsseason 4 commenced in January 2020, it had to be stopped. But now, we are finally about to enter the world of the upside-down with the release ofStranger Thingsseason 4.

The story of the show is quite baffling. Mind Flayer and its connection with different people, involvement of Russians, different scientific explanations to the incidents, and there’s so much more to keep in mind. So, it’s evident that most fans have a blurry image of what happened in the previous season. That’s why we have come up with a quick summary of all the significant things that happened in the past.

After El closes the portal to the upside-down, things start to get normal again. But Russian scientists have secretly come to Hawkins, and they are trying to open the portal once again. Mike and Eleven are a couple, but Hopper doesn’t like Mike visiting their house very often to meet her. On the other hand, Dustin also has a girlfriend who he met at the engineering camp, but she lives in Utah. Nancy and Jonathan are a thing as well. Mike’s mother, Karen Wheeler, has a crush on Billy, and they decide to meet. But Billy meets an accident after which he is dragged into a warehouse by a monster. Now he is possessed by the Mind-Flayer.

Nancy and Jonathan are working as intern reporters, and they reach the house of an old woman who notices the rats exploding in her house. She tells them that the mice were eating a chemical kept in her warehouse. El has been depressed after not being able to meet Mike, after which Max cheers her up by taking her to the mall. There she meets Mike, and after a small argument, El breaks up with Mike.

Joyce notices that the magnets have lost their force after the power cut incident, so she decides to meet Mr. Clarke. According to Clarke, a giant machine could be the possible reason for magnets to lose their magnetism. She starts to conclude that the research might be going on again in the Hawkins lab. While searching the lab, Hopper is attacked by someone unknown. After some more research on the rats incident, Nancy and Jonathan decide to visit the old lady again, but they notice her eating the chemical herself.

Dustin accidentally intercepts a Russian transmission, after which he, along with others, tries to decode the message. It turns out the message was valid when they noticed the delivery of some packages in the mall at night. As Billy is possessed by the Mind Flayer, he is instructed to kidnap his coworker Heather and bring her to the warehouse. Eleven in her vision senses that Billy has kidnapped Heather, after which they come to check on her. But everything seems completely normal.

Billy and Heather attack her parents and take them to the warehouse where the Mind Flayer possesses them as well. Will is now sure about the existence of the Mind-Flayer. On the other hand, Dustin and others figure out that they need to go through a vent to reach the suspicious Russian packages, for which they decide to use Erica. Hopper is reluctant to know about the man he met in the lab. So he reaches the mayor’s office and extracts all the information about him. Hopper uses the information to infiltrate one of the places and manage to abduct one scientist.

While looking for a way out, Dustin and others notice that the Russians are trying to open the upside-down portal. Russian soldiers capture Robin and Steve, but Dustin and Erica come to their rescue. Everyone decides to go to the hospital to meet the rat lady, but the meeting doesn’t seem to go pleasant. Possessed by the Mind-Flayer, Tom attacks the group, but they somehow kill him. He then liquefies like the rats in the lady’s warehouse and turns into a gross monster. But Eleven saves everyone by killing the monster.

Eleven tries to find the Mind-Flayer’s source by entering Billy’s mind, but it turns out that it can find El as well. Consequently, Mind-Flayer calls out its smaller pieces and forms a huge monster to attack Eleven and others. They somehow manage to escape his attacks, but Eleven gets a few cuts on her legs. Dustin and others are still stuck in the mall, Eleven saves them, and the two groups finally reunite.

Hopper and Joyce are on their hunt for the kids for which they go to the fair along with Dr. Alexei and Murray, and Gregori kills Alexei in the fair. Hopper, Joyce, and Murrey finally meet the kids at the mall and make a plan to close the portal. Eleven loses all her psychic powers after Mind-Flayer bites her leg. While Hopper is fighting the Russians, Mind-Flayer attacks the mall, but the kids somehow manage to escape.

Billy killed by Mind Flayer

The plan to stop the machine could only be successful after opening the safe containing the keys. But the password to the safe is a mathematical number, Plank’s Constant, which no one remembers. Dustin contacts his nerdy girlfriend, who tells them the value of Plank’s Constant, helping them open the safe. As soon as they are about to stop the machine, Gregori attacks them again, while Billy takes Eleven to the Mind-Flayer. Hopper manages to kill Gregori, and the kids keep the Mind-Flayer away from Eleven.

Eleven somehow releases Billy from the Mind-Flayer’s control, after which he sacrifices his life to help the kids escape. As there’s not much time left and Hopper is standing on the wrong side, Joyce has to stop the machine, sacrificing Hopper’s life. As soon as the portal closes, the monster dies instantly. Now, things go back to normal again, and Byers' family decides to leave the town. Eleven decides to leave Hawkins along with the Byers. In the credit scene of season 3, Russians are feeding the prisoners to the Damagorgan.
