Have you ever noticed that Starfield’s child NPCs seem strikingly familiar? Well, despite being over 7 months old,Starfieldplayers are now just realizing thatBethesdaseems to have just copied and pasted some pretty important NPCs.
While it’s not out of the ordinary for NPCs to have similar resemblances in video games - I’m sure we all remember the old-school WWE games where the crowd was the same three designs on rotation - it is uncommon for three story-vital NPCs to have nearly the exact same design. Sure,Starfield does have a wide variety of characters, but Bethesda seems to have copped out when it came to children.

There are three main child characters in Starfield: Cora Coe, who is the daughter of Sam Coe and Lillian Hart; Annie Wilcox, the daughter of Senior Ranger Emma Wilcox; and Sona, a descendant of The Dauntless crew. Each of these characters are featured in pivotal questlines in Starfield, but you might get a case of deja vu when you run into them.

“Zero Effort Was Given Here”: Starfield Players Mock Game’s Child NPCs
Over on the Starfield subreddit, players are roasting Bethesda (again) for its seemingly copied and pasted NPCs. Apost by Reddit user JonBovi_0reignited the conversation around Starfield’s child NPCs, saying, “I find it a little odd that three plus major child characters are literally the exact same person.” The user went on to question why Bethesda didn’t simply use other child models in the game that were less important.
Fellow players also joined in on the latest roasting of Bethesda, withone user saying, “They always do poorly with children but this was the worst.“Another user joked, “Yea man, come on Bethesda. it wouldn’t be too hard to at least stick a moustache on one.”

It’s believed by the game’s player base that this is a fine example of rushed development and simply reusing assets instead of making new ones. But what appears to be the most baffling about the decision to merely copy and paste these three NPCs is that there are other, less important, children in the game that could have been used.
Interacting with an NPC for a questline, only to encounter the same character design on a random planet later on with no impact on the story is one thing, but to interact with multiple NPCs for different questlines, only for them to be the exact same model, is rather embarrassing.
