One lucky Star Wars fan has managed to dig out an early playtest copy ofBattlefront IIIfor the PSP. The sequel to the hit 2005 game of the same name was unfortunately cancelled before being turned intoStar Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.

It seems that before the title was cancelled, development was far enough along for playtest copies to be sent out to certain individuals. One of which has now seen the light of day after a fan took to Reddit to reveal they still owned a near-perfect copy of the working game.

Playtest Copy of Star Wars: Battlefront III For PSP Emerges Online

Reddit userMy fiancé has a playtest copy of the canceled Star Wars: Battlefront III for PSPfromgaming" rel=“nofollow”>/u/MissFeepittook to the official Gaming Subreddit to reveal that their fiancé had a working playtest copy ofStar Wars: Battlefront IIIfor the PSP.

According to the Reddit user, Lucasarts was once a client of a relative of their fiancés and is how they managed to get a hold of this gaming relic. They state that once the game was cancelled, all assets were then gathered up by the studio, but this playtest cartridge for the PSP somehow managed to slip through the cracks.

Many fans pointed out that this is likely a copy ofStar Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, which was released in 2009 by Rebellion Developments, asElite Squadroncould have possibly used the already developed assets from the cancelled version ofBattlefront III.

However, this doesn’t make it any less cool. The Reddit user even attached pictures of the playtest copy working on an original PSP, showing the start-up screen, main menu, and loading screen.

As many Star Wars fans will know, the series was rebooted in 2015 by DICE and EA withStar Wars: Battlefront, followed byBattlefront IIin 2017. The reboot received mixed reviews from fans, with many still preferring the nostalgia of the original titles.
