Earlier this week it was learned thatSpider-Man Remasteredfor the PlayStation 5will not allow save transfers from the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The enhanced version of the game was announced alongside the most recent showing ofSpider-Man:Miles Moraleslast week during the latest PlayStation 5 showcase. Now the situation is getting a little more hairy as apparently the remasterwill not be available separately for purchase unless you get the Ultimate Edition ofMiles Moralesfor PS5.
It was also confirmed last week thatMiles Moralesalong witha few other first-party titleswill be releasing cross-gen on PlayStation 4even after Sony saying that that would not be the case. For those who do get the PlayStation 4 version ofMiles Morales, there will be a free PS5 upgrade and those who want to purchase the remaster will be able to do so, but it cannot be purchased separately.
Here is the full statement from Sony viaKotaku:
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remasteredis an enhanced version ofMarvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part ofMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesUltimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchaseMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moraleson PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version ofMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesand can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to downloadMarvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.
There are no plans currently to offerMarvel’s-Spider-Man: Remasteredas a standalone. Players with a copy ofMarvel’s Spider-Manfor PS4 can purchaseMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesUltimate Edition to experienceMarvel’s Spider-Man: Remasteredon PS5.Marvel’s Spider-Manfor PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.
Their statement is pretty straightforward and clear except for those who are physical PS4 owners ofMiles Morales. What system will be in place for those who upgrade, but didn’t buy digitally? How will PlayStation know that they are eligible for thePS5 upgrade? Hopefully, Sony clears that up before the game’s launch on November 12. At the very least, the PS4 version will be available to play via backward compatibility on PS5.
Miles Moraleswill be a launch title with the PlayStation 5, but it will be out on PlayStation 4 the same day. You can pre-order both the PS5 and PS4 version over on Amazon.
