With every episode, the third part ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Waris taking shape and leading us to the final showdown. The anime is fixing the rushed pacing of the manga and the characters are being explored better as a result. This is proving especially beneficial for Yhwach, who was already a menace in the manga. Every episode is building up his character and we have a lot of information about him from his spar with Ichibei.

Pain fromNarutohad a similar menacing presence as Yhwach. Both are ruthless in their ways and choose the path of destruction to achieve an ideal world. However, Yhwach is better written than Pain, and every episode of the series reinstates this. Tite Kubo introduced Yhwach as the emperor and the final villain, and every new development justifies this title as Yhwach wreaks havoc.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood WarBrilliantly Explores Yhwach
Yhwach was introduced to us during the first part ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. His first interaction with Ichigo gave poor Ichigo an existential crisis. Yhwach destroyed the Seireitei with his army of strong Quincies. While he had no idea about his reasoning, we knew that he wanted to see the Soul King. He pushed Yamamoto to his limits andeventually to his death. The first time we got a glimpse of his true nature was when he activated the Auswählen.
Yhwach’s ultimate goal was to reform the world and end the cycle of life. It would, in turn, prove the three realms null as they were divided on the basis of the cycle of life as well. He hasn’t yet completely achieved his goal in the anime but he’s not that far off. The Soul Reapers are using every ounce of their powers to hold off the Almighty.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Gives Meaning to Yhwach’s Motives as a Villain After Being Defeated in the Past
Even though he cared about his subordinates, he didn’t mind their loss as much. During his fight with Ichibei, he regained his true powers and he’s nearly invincible now. He has achieved his goal and even used Ichigo against his will. We also found out about Yhwach’s childhood, andTite Kubohas ramped up the stakes. And Yhwach is turning out to be a better villain than most shonen villains.
Here’s Why Yhwach is Better than Pain
Pain is a fan-favorite villain fromNaruto. Out of all the villains that appear in the series, Pain was the most menacing and his character arc was the best-written as well. Pain grew up during the war and it warped his view of the world. After years of tragedy, he ultimately decided to unite everyone through suffering. However, the momentMasashi Kishimotoreversed the effects of Shinra Tensei, he dampened everything Pain represented.
The arc is still top-tier for many fans but that final twist definitely reversed everything Kishimoto built up. On the other hand, Yhwach’s wrath feels extremely real as he has taken the destruction to a whole new level. He completely destroyed the Seireitei and killed the strongest Soul Reapers. He makes the protagonist look helpless and weak. His persona is too strong and the threat he poses is balanced by his selfish motives.

Tite Kubo Did it Again as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’s 9-Minute Recap Also Becomes Yhwach’s Most Significant Moment
There’s no denying that Quincies were treated horribly. The recent and best example of it was Sejumaru’s dialogue with Uryu, she called the Quincies ‘forsaken by the Soul King’. The unfair treatment they’ve experienced throughout their lives gives Yhwach’s selfishness a much-needed depth.
He’s a more menacing and overpowered villain than Pain fromNarutoand if the anime continues to elevate the events from the manga, the difference will become more apparent.

BothNarutoandBleachare available to stream on Netflix.
