During the opening night of Gamescom 2022, Sony finallyintroducedits own answer to Xbox’s Elite Controller, the DualSense Edge wireless controller. The controller has an enormous degree of versatility, including changeable stick caps and back buttons, replaceable stick modules, separate game profiles, and much more.
The DualSense Edge features a number of both hardware and software-based customization options for maximum personalization. First of all, a much-needed option in the Xbox Elite controller has finally migrated to PlayStation, fully customizable controls. The new DualSense Edge allows players to remap or deactivate specific button inputs, in addition to adjusting stick sensitivity and dead zones. This option was available in some in-game settings such as Fortnite and Rocket League, and also for every game on the Steam store, but will now be available for any game on the Playstation 5 with the DualSense Edge.
You don’t want to be fine-tuning your control mappings and button settings every time you log in to a game, which is why Sony has introduced another essential future: multiple control profiles. Now you can save your preferred control settings to unique profiles and swap between them on the fly. There is also a dedicated button called the FN button on the DualSense Edge, which will allow you to adjust your control buttons while in-game, in addition to adjusting game volume and chat balance.
It was not mentioned how many profiles could one make at the moment. The Xbox Elite Controller has 3 custom profiles and 1 default profile, so it might contain the same number or more. Players also now can buy replacement stick modules separately from separate stores if any stick becomes defective or rusty. Needless to say, the DualSense Edge will retain every signature immersive function of the original DualSense, including Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, a Built-In Microphone, and everything else.
According to Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director at Playstation, the DualSense Edge will feature a number of thoughtful design touches, including a DualSense controller-inspired black-and-white color scheme and a unique PlayStation Shapes pattern on the touchpad and trigger surfaces. In the upcoming months, Playstation will be sharing more details about the controller, and they have high hopes that the PlayStation community will be able to experiment and attempt to unlock the full potential of the controller’s customization options.
