Although there have been several retellings of Superman’s story over the years,Smallvillehas a very special place in the hearts of the fans. The series ran for ten seasons and starred the beloved Tom Welling, gaining a following of its own and managing to become iconic despite the flashy lights of DC’s cinematic universe. Not only was the series critically acclaimed, but it also stood out in its own way in front of the rest of the Superman projects.

I’ll tell you where it’s at: We need Warner Brothers and DC to let us do it. We’ve got Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar,] who are very busy doing a TV show called Wednesday. But they created Smallville, they want to write it. We just need to go ahead from DC and and Warner Brothers. So if you know anybody over there…because, listen, this is a passion project.

He started by explaining that the creators do not need much from James Gunn and Warner Bros. They simply need the go-ahead from the higher-ups, and the rest they are willing to do completely on their own. He added that the developers of the original series, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are currently working on Jenna Ortega’sWednesday.

However, both of them are very interested in joining the potential new project, wanting to come back to their roles and write the series.

Tom Wellingfurther elaborated on the plan that they have for a potentialSmallvillespinoff, revealing that they are taking a very realistic approach towards it. They understand that they are not going to make something record-breaking that is going to make the world stop for a second.

He explained that it is a passion project that is very close to the hearts of those who worked on the original series. He also added that they are not only doing it for their gratification, explaining that a show like this would simply be fan service and make their fans happy since they have been wanting something like this for years.

It’s not going to be a blockbuster, it’s for the fans. All the actors want to do the voices of the characters – we’re all in. We just need them to let us use the property.

Welling added that all the cast is on board and interested in voicing their characters again. All they need to make the series are the rights to these characters. While some might be upset with the way that the actor pitched the series, his realistic approach to a series that a very dedicated audience wants can certainly be appreciated.

Smallvilleis available for streaming on Hulu.
