This was revealed by actor Donnie Yen (Ip Man), who was attached to the project for years and was supposed to star in the flick.

Speaking toPolygonin a Zoom call, Yen revealed that he had spent a lot of time and even his own money to make the project work, but that didn’t take. “I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights,” Yen said. “I waited for years. While the game did receive story-related DLCs, the planned sequel, which would have picked up where the first game left off, was scrapped before it entered full production. If you want to play the game now, the Definitive Edition for the PS4 and Xbox One is still available.

You cancheck our review from 2012 here, where it states, “While Sleeping Dogs exhibits a few minor flaws here and there, and misses the opportunity of pairing the freedom in gameplay with the freedom of choosing the outcome of the story, it’s a definitely solid experience that shouldn’t be missed by any fan of the open world action genre, not to mention all those that love Hong Kong movies and their setting.”
