Coming from the studio that brought us theDark Soulsseries andBloodborne, I can already tell you that yes,Sekiro: Shadows Die Twiceis hard. And that you’ll probably die a lot. I mean, the title of the game is called “Shadows DIE Twice.” Think about it.

…in any event,Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice–the highly-anticipated next project coming from From Software–is just a few weeks away from release, and from what we’ve seen of the game so far, fans of From Software will have a lot to look forward to from the studio’s new title.

2019

In a recent preview session with Activision, we got to play about two-and-a-half hours ofSekiro: Shadows Die Twicefor ourselves, and while death was certainly something that I was expecting going into the game, what I didn’t expect was how much that the game both inherits and changes a lot of the basic mechanics of the Soulslike genre that players have come to know and love over the years. Now, you’re able to see a bit of that for yourselves.

For a closer look atSekirobefore its release later this month, you can check out 20 minutes of gameplay footage from our preview session that will give you an idea of what to expect from the game. Captured on PS4 Pro, the gameplay footage you’ll find is from the early sections of the game, and should give a quick glimpse at what makesSekiroso notable, from combat, to exploration, to its storytelling, and yes, maybe even a giant rooster.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twicewill release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 12, 2025. Once you’re done watching the gameplay footage and getting your sick satisfaction at my failure to play the game, you can alsoread our hands-on preview impressions of the game. If you’re willing to take more punishment than I am, you can alsopre-order the game on Amazon nowbefore its release later this month.
