A deeply emotional scene, Cameron had it removed from the theatrical cut due to the movie’s already long run-time, as revealed by producer Gale Anne Hurd in an interview withThe Ringerin 2022.
Sadly, the scene that we had to trim because of the running length [is] when she promises her own daughter that she’ll be back for her birthday and she isn’t. That was really the moment and the scene that created the drive that Ripley’s character has toward not betraying another child, her essentially surrogate daughter, Newt.
Not only would have this scene provided an emotional element to Ripley and Newt’s relationship but it would have also added another layer of depth to Ripley’s character. While it is a shame it was cut, Snyder fans will have a laugh hearing the reason, for the former DC helmer is famous for his excruciatingly long movies, that fans not only love but enjoy!
