A fresh glimpse of theResident Evil 4 Remakewas revealed during thePlayStation Showcase on Thursdayon Thursday, showing off new story sequences not seen in the original version. The trailer also confirmed the return of the highly challenging Mercenary mode and teased the release of a special game demo in the near future.
The main difference between the original and the remake shown here is the increased presence of Luis Serra, the biologist who previously had only about 10 minutes of screen time and limited opportunities to bond with the protagonist, Leon Kennedy. The new trailer confirms that Luis will now accompany Leon through several episodes of the game, not just the one in which they both get kidnapped in the house, making him a full-fledged travel companion.

Old enemies from the original title were shown, including the massive El Gigante, who is at least four times Leon’s size, and the fearsome Chainsaw Sisters. New next-gen renditions of Jack Krauser and Osmund Saddler, the main antagonists, were also revealed.
Moreover, The mine cart episode from the original game, in which Leon shoots enemies while riding on an automatic railroad cart, has been greatly expanded in the remake. It is now packed with additional suspense and story cutscenes, providing a more immersive and engaging experience than the original game.
The Mercenaries is a well-known recurring mini-game in the Resident Evil series, and its gameplay and objectives vary with each new iteration, but the primary goal is to earn a high score by eliminating as many enemies as possible within a time limit.
In Resident Evil 4, the objective was to defeat the highest number of enemies before the evacuation helicopter arrived in a fictional scenario where the player was a mercenary. The mode featured five different playable characters, each with their own attributes and melee attacks. However, the upcoming remake, just likeResident Evil Village, might add new characters and enemies.
According to thefollow-up blog post, the Mercenaries mode will be available to owners of the remake as a free post-launch DLC. As for the demo, it will release on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will launch on March 24 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
