One of theMortal Kombatseries' most menacing villains in making his return toMortal Kombat 1later this month. As revealed Sunday in an official game trailer, demonic sorcererQuan Chiwill be coming to the game starting on December 14. In addition, a new Kameo character, Khameleon, will be joining the game sometime in January.

Quan Chi is shown to be using portals to the Nether Realm as his primary form of attack, as he appears in the trailer in fights against Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and fellow bad guy Shang Tsung, attacking with striking and grappling tentacles that burst forth from the portals. He can aparrently also use the portals to move opponents around the field of battle to gain an advantage, as he is shown doing against Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released in September with a roster of 24 playable characters and 15 Kameo characters, a new feature for this game that allows playable characters to summon a supporting fighter to step in for a while during fights.

Kameo fighters are just one of Mortal Kombat 1’s newest features.

Quan Chi actually made his Mortal Kombat debut in the animated series Mortal Kombat: Defendatrs of the Realm, which premiered in 1996. He made his first in-game appearance the following year as a villainous character in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, but he wasn’t made playable until Mortal Kombat 4 later that year.

He also had a starring role in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, serving as one of a pair of antagonists alongside Shang Tsung. The two share a humorous moment in the trailer, as the latter tells the former “I had hoped our alliance would be more… deadly.”

As for Khameleon, she first appeared as a hidden character in Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the Nintendo 64 (versions on other consoles had a male counterpart named Chameleon instead) before being added to the main roster of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

Fans on X, where the news was shared by series creator Ed Boone, seem excited for the impending arrival of the two new characters. However, many shared with Boone their desire for other characters to be added to Mortal Kombat 1, including Skarlet, Sareena, Jade, and Sonya Blade.
