Basculin is an interesting gimmickPokemonfirst appearing in the generation 5 games Black and White. Depending on where you were fishing in the world of Unova, Basculin would either have red stripes or blue stripes, but the gimmick was nothing more than a color palette, as all stats were the same, and there was no evolution. Basculin was given a massive upgrade to this concept inLegends: Arceuswith a white-striped form that could finally evolve.

How To Get Red And Blue Striped Basculin In Scarlet And Violet

If the little green fish hasn’t already been checked off your to-do list for the Pokedex, you’ll be able to find Basculin inrivers and ponds all around Paldea. As mentioned earlier, there is no difference between the red and blue striped Basculin other than which color you would rather catch unless you’d rather catch both anyway.

There are no base stat changes between red and blue Basculin, and they cannot evolve. They are an all-around decent Pokemon, nothing mind-blowing but also nothing terrible in terms of a physical attack-focused Water-type.

As for how to get the color you’d prefer, unlike with Black and White, the different striped Basculin are not based on whether you’re fishing in the north or the south; bothred and blue Basculin will be found in the same map areas, but they are territorial and will only group in schools of Basculin of the same strip. If you see a school of blue Basculin, you will need to try a different body of water to find red Basculin.

How To Get White Striped Basculin In The Teal Mask

In theupper right-hand corner of the Teal Mask map, you’ll see the Timeless Woods and, more importantly, a pond calledKitakami Wilds. The Wilds is the only place in the game where you can find wild white-striped Basculin.

Jump right into the pond with Koraidon or Miraidon. If you played Legends: Arceus, you’ll remember thatwhite-striped Basculin are very skittish,as they tend to swim away from you as fast as they can. This downside has been severely nerfed for The Teal Mask.White-striped Basculin will still panic when they see you, but they stay in place for several seconds before swimming away. You’ll be much faster than they are, so as long as you don’t lose sight of the Basculin you want, you should be easily able to catch it.

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet DLC Basculegion Newly Evolved

An interesting thing to know is that white-striped Basculin has a completely separate entry from red and blue-striped Basculin. Meaning once you catch one, it will count as a new species of Pokemon even if you caught a previous color of Basculin. This is especially helpful for trying to reach the high number of captures you’ll need to unlock the quest to catchBlood Moon Ursaluna.

How To Evolve White Striped Basculin Into Basculegion

White-striped Basculin had an odd evolution requirement in Legends: Arceus, and the method has mostly stayed the same. For Basculin to evolve into Basculegion, you need to have itdamage itself from recoil attacks during Pokemon battles without fainting from them. The damage will be counted each time this is successful, and since the cumulative amount needed back in Legends: Arceus was294, it is safe to assume the exact or a similar amount is needed for The Teal Mask DLC.

Basculin naturally learns many recoil-based moves:

You’ll want to face enemies both strong enough to have a large pool of HP but also weak enough that Basculin doesn’t accidentally knock itself out.Recoil attacks hurt the user based on how much HP damage was dealt to the opponent. So, if you were planning on returning to early areas of the previous map, you would end up spending hours upon hours.

Instead, travel back toKitakami Road.Enemies in that area can be in the low to mid-50s level-wise, and many of them will be Bug-types like Spinarak and Cutiefly. This is great for your Basculin asHead Smash is a Rock-type attack and is super-effective against Bug.Rely on Head Smash, and you can one-hit KO a lot of enemies in a row, as long as you stick to grinding on Kitakami Road.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC Tera Raid Battle Basculegion Dragon Type

Once you think you’ve taken enough cumulative damage, remember that unlike Legends: Arceus, the evolution will not trigger until the next level up.you may level up however you see fit, whether you’d prefer to use some of your experience candy or if you’d rather keep fighting or catching wild Pokemon.

As long as you made your white-striped Basculin take enough damage, you will now have a Basculegion. Basculegion gains the Ghost dual-type and a boost to stats.

And just remember, red and blue striped Basculin cannot evolve into Basculegion. Only white-striped Basculin can evolve.

Other Ways To Obtain Basculegion

If you wish to rely on NRG instead of evolving a Basculin,Basculegion can appear in a Tear Raid Battle. As these are random, they aren’t recommended, but will give you a Basculegion with a unique Tera form.

For players with save data in Legends: Arceus and access to Pokemon Home, that is also an option if you wish to skip finding Basculin in the DLC.
