There’s nothing more amazing than when a Pokémon trainer catches a legendary Pokémon. The days and hours of planning to join raids with your team and take down a Legendary or Mega beast together… It all pays off.
But what if Niantic gave us such an insane spawn in the wild? Well, they won’t. They’ll probably mask it as a Ditto or Zorua. And to rookies, catching either of these might be exciting till they learn they’re “not all that.” Sure, the catch may knock off some research tasks, but in the long run these Pokémon only serve mostly to get a Pokédex entry, and maybe occasionally thrown into a PvP battle for some low-tier rewards. But then again, that might be just a Zoroark and not a Ditto.
To seasoned players, however, it’s not easy to fool them with a “shiny legendary” spawn in the wild, right? Well, not unless you happened to forget your basics that they only appear in raids, or you just happened to have an off day, and the prospect of a mega or legendary Pokémon hitting your Pokédex and roster excited you like a noob. Or maybeNiantic’s confusing wordingof “encountering” the Pokémon really did a number on you.

Whatever the reason the Trainer had, you’re bound to cry when you take a look at a Master Ball thrown at a tiny, shiny CP43 Groudon… spawned in the wild. Hurts to just hear it, doesn’t it?
A Master Ball and a Pinap Berry for… a Zorua?!
You’ve got one Master Ball in your items and a Pinap Berry to get your Legendary’scandies going. Except… aShiny Primal Groudon doesn’t spawn in the wild, does it? If that doesn’t stop you in your tracks and throw you off guard, how about the fact that it’s got a terribleCombat Powerof a meagre 43 and the screen screamed “It’s tiny!” at you? Still no? All right, you go ahead and make that curveball, Trainer!
Well, whatever this Trainer went through, can’t say we all haven’t been there, haven’t done that. We’ve all caught an unexpected wild encounter only for it to say “Oh?” and be met with a Zorua or a Ditto. Except, maybe not all of us wasted our only remaining Master Ball on one.
Surely, we’ve all learned our lesson after. But, all Pokémon have their place in our Pokédex- Shiny, Lucky, or for Research Tasks.
What is the ongoing season inPokémon GO?
As of writing, players can explore the “World of Wonders”. This season will last until August 12, 2025, local time. Per the official site, players will have a chance to encounter Shadow Raikou, Shadow Entei, and Shadow Suicune in five-star Shadow Raids across the globe, and a chance to encounter Shiny ones too.
The GO Battle League is now open to Trainers under Ultra Premier, Master Premier, Spring Cup, Jungle Cup, and Great League. The season also presents Research Breakthroughsencounters with 6 Pokémon.

The season also promises exclusive bonuses- Increased damage dealt by Pokémon participating in raids with Friends, One additional free Raid Pass per day by spinning Gym Photo Discs, and Increased XP for defeating one-star and three-star Raids, including one-star and three-star Shadow Raids. It’s looking good for Trainers with Poipole now part of the season’s Special Research with many tasks still to come.
