Downey Jr.’s wife and creative partner Susan Downey recently gave an update about a possible third film toScreenRant. Downey claimed that despite no updates, a third Sherlock Holmes film is very much alive in their hearts.
She further stated that there are still discussions going on every day about Sherlock Holmes. The prospect of Downey Jr. and Law reuniting is exciting for everyone involved but they are still waiting for a great script that warrants doing a third film. Downey said,
I mean, look, no, there’s no update, other than it’s still very much alive in our hearts. Every day we talk about, ‘What is the best next version of that?’
Because anytime I see Robert and Jude [Law] together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out, and I’m just like, ‘Can I get these guys back on screen together?’, it’s magic. There needs to be a really strong reason, it needs to be a great story, and we do have some things in the works.
Ritchie has already announced alternate plans for the IP, ayoung Sherlock Holmesproject at Amazon that will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who recently starred in Ritchie’sThe Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Regarding Downey Jr.’s run as the character, it remains to be seen whether the makers manage to pull up a compelling script sooner rather than later.
