The Wheel of Time Game Will Be Developed In-House
In a bold move, the open-world RPG won’t be developed by a studio with a background in such games but in-house by a new games division called iwot games.Varietysays Warner Bros. Games veteran Craig Alexander will lead this studio.
The projected timeline for development is three years , and it’s planned to be released on consoles and PC. The studio will be based in Montreal, and will be “spearheading the interactive entertainment pillar of the company’s multi-platform strategy to expand ‘The Wheel of Time’ across film, television, and gaming.”
iwot Studios, formerly Red Eagle Entertainment, acquired the rights to Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” book series across film, TV, video games, and comics in 2004. Aside from the ongoing Amazon Prime TV show, iwot Studios is producing multiple projects based on the IP, including an action feature film, “Age of Legends,” directed by Kari Skogland, and a 3D-animated feature with Quebec-based Squeeze Animation Studios.
As with most brands crossing over to different entertainment mediums, expect the TV show to connect to the game and films. iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage confirms there will be “a lot of continuity in regards to how we approach our transmedia strategy.”
Selvage added to their statement, “It’s an open-world game, and it’ll be everything with the ‘Wheel of Time.’ Everything that is covered in the books, as well as all the backstory elements of it.”

As for who’s leading development, Craig Alexander was previously the vice president of product development at Warner Bros. Games. Some of Alexander’s projects include MMORPG “The Lord of the Rings Online,” “Dungeons & Dragons Online,” and a “Game of Thrones” mobile game.
Alexander shares, “Adapting such a legendary mythology into an open-world RPG is a rare and ambitious challenge. It takes vision, scale, and a vibrant creative environment — all of which Montreal provides. I’m thrilled to lead the effort and build a world-class team capable of honoring this beloved world.”
