Fans ofElden Ringhave been excited ever since the trailer of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC came out. Fans had to wait for almost a year to watch the trailer of FromSoftware’s one of the biggest expansions for the game ever. However, as fans are gearing up to play the DLC, the developers recently have made a surprising revelation.

In aninterview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki surprised fans by revealing that they might have missed out on a small element in theElden Ringgame. However, nothing much was revealed during the interview apart from this. Fans took his announcement as a challenge and started scoring the Lands Between. Moreover, it now looks like one fan managed to find something solid.
Elden Ringfan finds a hint about Messmer in the game
This particular small secret that the developers were talking about is hidden behind an apparently ordinary wooden shield. This clue was first noticed by Reddit user Cudakid210. The object in question is concealed in the Sage’s Cave behind an imaginary wall and has a description on it.
The first part ofthe description reads,“A tall, medium-sized wooden shield. Light for its size, and easy to handle.”

This statement does not give much of a hint about Messmer. However, the second line which states,“Thought to represent a surreptitious prophecy of cardinal sin, the lit candle-tree design was forbidden”,is somewhat promising.

Fans ofElden Ringare getting excited reading the second part of the description. This is because the “candle-tree design”, was seen in the trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and this is as fans now know the symbol for Messmer’s faction. In the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree teaser, fans got to see Messmer’s troops carrying weapons and armor with the same candle-tree symbol.

Thus, from what is looked by now, the developers had given this little hint about Messmer coming to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC from the beginning. It now seems improbable that fans could have discovered this hidden secret as they waited for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC if it weren’t for the developers’ revelation.
