Severance Season 2will arrive on AppleTV+ on January 17, nearly three years afterSeason 1debuted on the streamer. The first season came with an interesting sci-fi premise: a group of office employees enters the ‘Severance’ project which makes it impossible for them to remember their office life at home. However, whenSeason 1ended, it left us with more questions than answers.

Fans raised an issue over the three-year delay and some argued that it might contribute to a loss of audience interest for the project. However, creator Dan Erickson explains why the delay in makingSeason 2was overly exaggerated by fans of the series.
Severancecreator saysSeason 1took as much time asSeason 2to develop
The first season ofSeverancedebuted on AppleTV+ in February 2022 andit almost took three yearsfor the makers to drop another season. During this time, production was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of 2023. There were also some creative differences on the set and at one point, fans learned thatBen Stillerrolled out plans for creating a movie between the first and second seasons.
5 Things to Remember Before Watching Severance Season 2
Dan Erickson, the creator of the series, has a rough idea about how long the show will last and what would be its possible conclusion. Speaking to Gizmodo, Erickson shared that he hoped to bring a potentialSeason 3to the screen sooner than the time it took forSeason 2. However, Erickson also clarified one misunderstood notion about the delay inSeason 2.
Erickson shared that the second season of the show took almost the same amount of time to develop as its first season. He shared that the difference was that prior toSeason 1, nobody knew whatSeverancewas and they weren’t waiting for the project. He shared withGizmodo:

Because season two actually took about the same amount of time as season one. The difference, of course, is season one nobody knew what the show was and so they weren’t waiting for it.
He further shared that he was always looking to“sort of fine-tune the process and take what works and leave what doesn’t work and streamline things.”The creator shared that the fastened-up process would probably help him to deliver a third season in a timely manner.

Severance Season 3will take place under tightened production and budget
According toForbes, the second season ofSeverancecosts at least $20 million per episode. It was reported that the second season will consist of 10 episodes, meaning that the total cost of the new season is a whopping $200 million. The high cost makes itone of the most expensive streaming seriesof all time.
Severance Season 2 Review — Was It Worth the Wait?
Fans are puzzled, asSeverancelacks the grand settings that many high-cost projects typically require. According toBloomberg, Apple is facing challenges due to the hefty budgets of shows likeSeverance. The report indicates that the company is scaling back its spending on original shows. The future seasons ofAdam Scott‘s series may not enjoy the same lavish budget.
With a limited budget, the show will have to cut down on its production, raising questions about whether this will impact its quality. However, it could only be answered with a clear understanding of where the exorbitant budget of the previous seasons went. On a brighter note, the future seasons will arrive on the streamer faster than the first and second seasons.

Severanceis now available for streaming on AppleTV+.
