Sometimes, information leaks. Sometimes, that ‘leak’ is a marketing tease - a cryptic message here, a hint there. Something that the game’s publisher maybe didn’t greenlight, but no legal department could find a case for.

This is not one of those times. 5 years ago,Larian’s Publishing Director got really drunk one night and just told people the release date ofBaldur’s Gate 3. For the funny, presumably.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Is Recreating Iconic Dungeon From Baldur’s Gate 2

The upcoming Menzoberranzan mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 is planning on recreating the iconic Irenicus Lab opening dungeon from Baldur’s Gate 3.

But hey, if a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around to hear it, could it really have spoiled Baldur’s Gate 3 for everyone?

Analogies aside, the release date forLarian’s ever-popular titlewas written on a bottle of whiskey, and just left in a bar for all to see.

How We Discovered Baldur’s Gate 3’s Hidden Leak

A half-decade after the incident, with apparently nobody picking up on it, Michael Douse (the aforementioned Publishing Director)took to Xto loop the public in on what was right in front of their noses.

“5 years and a pandy ago,” he says, “I wrote the BG3 release date on this bottle of whiskey and let it hang at the bar, and nobody found it.”

I was drunk but it never leaked so in retrospect it’s funny and not a legal issue.

Douse also teases that “maybe I did it again”, so clearly you should be checking the back of every whiskey bottle you see from now on. Because apparently no-one ever looks at those things.

While we do know what kind of whiskey the message was written on (Japanese Suntory whiskey), Douse did not elaborate on the nature or size of the location beyond calling it “the bar.”

And yes, 5 years later, Douse took the time to “drink from the mythical bottle of secrets”.
