Eiichiro Oda’sOne Pieceis one of the most beloved series of all time. It features a compelling storyline, alluring animation, and well-choreographed fights that bring out the best in an adventure series. But what sets it apart from the rest is how it arguably features the best character cast, which goes beyond good looks.

Every character has their own tragic backstories and internal conflicts that make the viewers root for them. Most viewers watch the series for The Monster Trio for their epic fights; Tony Tony Chopper has amassed an equally massive fanbase for himself.
Though for the most part, he is the mascot of the Straw Hat Pirates, he will be ready to take down his foes using the Rumble Balls. However, one of his transformations has gained immense criticism because of how the series decided to nerf him both aesthetically and physically.

One Piecedecided to ruin Tony Tony Chopper’s Monster Point transformation
ThroughoutOne Piece,Eiichiro Odahas featured a number of transformations to Chopper, which focuses on the different departments of the character. From Arm Point to Kung Fu Point, each showcased the genius of the Little Doctor, where he utilized most of his Devil Fruit.
While he continues to use the power of the Rumble Ball to come up with new transformations, his Monster Point would truly be his ultimate form. This Point showcases Chopper at his best and his worst. He would take three Rumble Balls to transform into a gigantic monster, where he loses consciousness and can’t differentiate between foes and allies.

However, as the series progressed, he wanted to be more useful to his crew and play a more important role, where he could add to the offensive power of the crew. Hence, he decided to learn more about his power so that he could overcome his fear, which led to his eventual downfall.
Compared to Enies Lobby, where this form was first showcased, his later transformations were quite an eyesore, as fans felt that the executives ofOne Pieceattempted to keep Chopper’s cute nature intact. Additionally, he was a monster that his foes would fear because of his destructive nature, which was even seen as his trump card stripping him of his fear.

However, his mastery of the form gradually subdued that element that showcases his growth but lost its fearsome edge. Additionally, it led to a new side effect, where he would shrink and become pocket-sized, making him all cute and cuddly.
Ultimately, sidelining him again during the battles, making him nothing more than a comic relief character among the Straw Hat Pirates.

One Piecefans are disappointed with Chopper’s character growth
Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus is not all bright and optimistic, as seasoned followers have witnessed how the series deals with dark and grim subjects. Theseries has suffered from a slow pace, which has affected him to give a fittingtribute to his fellow manga rival Masashi Kishimoto. However, the ruin of their favorite character’s dark side was the last straw for the fans of the Adventure series.
The community took to social media (@Soul_StormOP) and compared Chopper to Hulk, where the latter was once a fearsome being but is now a laughingstock among superhero fans. A similar notion was followed by fellow fans as they left comments criticizing the character’s development. The fans commented,
Nah sorry the “tame the beast within” trope is sick and good character development. Even Naruto
Hate it with a passionChopper being a cute doctor that can kill shit in defense of his patience is what I want to see
Blame Toei 🤷pic.twitter.com/bZNKCpydNk
CHOPPER HATED TO BE SEEN AS A MONSTER AND THIS FORM WAS JUST FOR EMERGENCY! NOW HE HAS EMBRACED HIS MONSTER SIDE MASTERING THE FORM FOR THE CREW!!!pic.twitter.com/yviflYr8zF
“This character progression is ass”pic.twitter.com/pzxSQQ7Jnq
Nah. What y’all don’t like was the character losing its fierce nature. If Chopper was still in control while looking fierce, y’all wouldn’t say shit.
Nevertheless, Oda-Sensei has given anodd excuse for his characters, which would make much more sense. Thus, explaining the critics of the ruin of the epic transformation that once put the character in the limelight.
One Piececan be streamed on Hulu; meanwhile, the manga can be read on VIZ Media.
